Our weekly roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who must not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – club parties, exhibits, live music, cocktails, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

5pm - : St. Martin’s Day Wine Festival at Danubius Hotel Gellért Amid the historic Art Nouveau ambience of Budapest’s riverfront Hotel Gellért, the fifth-annual St. Martin’s Day Wine Festival during November 5-8 offers guests unlimited tastings of diverse libations from across Hungary and beyond, along with varied regional foods to snack on and special dinner events over the course of four days. Special entertainment programs include belly dancing, a jazz concert, and DJ sets at after parties stretching late into the night. The Hungarian tradition of St. Martin’s Day is to eat goose dishes, and this festive event will see the debut of new specialties unique to world gastronomy, fusing east and west: Peking goose and goose sushi.

6pm - :

9. Graphifest opening ceremony
at Tesla Budapest The event Graphifest will be held for the 9th time, in cooperation between the Aranyrajzszög Társaság (ART), the Society of Hungarian Graphic Designers and Typographers (MATT, Magyar Tervezőgrafikusok és Tipográfusok Társasága), and Design Terminal. The exhibition offers a selection of works awarded the 14th Aranyrajzszög Prize and sent to MATT’s tender, titled “Kép-Regény-Hős”.

6pm - :
NØ – Scandinavian Women’s Festival
at Scandinavian HouseScandinavian House Foundation organizes a large-scale festival under the name, to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of women gaining the right to vote. The festival is not just about gender equality and women’s suffrage, but in a broader sense it concentrates on women of the 21st century with some historical outlook. The festival’s diverse program includes presentations of Scandinavian authors, film screenings, writer-reader meetings, reader’s theater, a quiz related to Scandinavian women, a gastronomy program, a fashion show, roundtable discussions, a dance party with a Scandinavian female DJ, and essay and photo contest, an exhibition, a Nordic book fair, and much more… 7.30pm - : Shining, Caligula’s Horse, Jack Dalton at A38 The Norwegian band Shining has been to Budapest this year at Barba Negra Club, organized by A38, as the opening band for Devin Townsend.

The serious and brilliant “fjordcore formation” returns to A38 on Friday, to show what real uncompromising jazzpunk is like.

10pm - :

Casino Bangkok – Florian Meindl
at Corvintető This year’s season took off powerfully for fans of Casino Bangkok. After the guest appearances of O [Phase] and Alex.do, it became obvious that the series turned towards darker techno music in a more emphasized way than ever; all this with the help of guests who have not yet presented themselves to the club scene of Budapest. To compensate for this, they can welcome an old friend at Corvintető, Florian Meindl, who is a classic guest of the series, and returns with a new especially techno-sounding album, thus providing a worthy sequel to the series.
