The Budapest Urban Games is an unusual sports event organized by the BUG community, the Municipality of Budapest, and the BVA Budapesti Városarculati Nonprofit Kft., with the goal of promoting urban sports and supporting local sports communities. The event was held for the first time last year, when participants could compete at urban locations that we usually use for transport or recreation, including downtown streets, tourist attractions, or abandoned sites.

Among this year’s events – all happening on Saturday, September 2nd – is a swimming race across the Danube, believed to be the first such competition held in Budapest. The starting point of the race will be set at the Pest-side lower quay, under Liberty Bridge, while the finish will be located on the Buda side of the city, in front of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. In the beginning of July, four BUG organizers successfully completed the approximately 330-meter-long race in about 10 minutes, with the permission of the Danube Water Police Department. Fortunately, they found no problems with the drifting of the river and located no vortexes along the way.

Both amateur and professional athletes are welcome at the urban sports event, held at urban locations we already know well. The street-football championship will take place in the area in front of the above-mentioned Budapest University of Technology and Economics, while the street workout competitions and runs will be held at the Citadel.
