10am - 6pm: “Enter” exhibition at Kunsthalle Diverse design items, innovative imagery, animations, and creative motion pictures fill Budapest’s contemporary display space in this new exhibition presenting various works by the students of the Arts Department at the Budapest Metropolitan University. The installations provide visitors with a sneak peek of the university’s creative processes that span diverse traditions, as well as current and future technological developments.
12pm - midnight: Bálna Advent at Bálna Budapest Budapest’s whale-shaped riverside edifice is transformed into a month-long Advent attraction beginning on December 2nd, where plenty of exciting Yuletide programs provide merry moments to visitors, including a free ice-skating rink with a sweeping panorama over the Danube, musical programs, and a fair filled with Hungarian handicrafts, street-food treats, and spicy mulled wine. Those who visit the fair on Friday can listen to a jolly jazz and blues concert featuring Christmas classics starting at 5pm, while a DJ spin discs to inspire stunts at the ice disco that starts at 6pm.
7pm - 10pm: Poulenc – Dialogues des Carmélites premiere at Hungarian State Opera As of press time, tickets are still available for this dramatic debut performance that portrays a real-life story of the French Revolution, as in response to the anti-church movement of the Jacobin dictatorship, 16 Carmelite nuns were executed in Paris on July 17, 1794. A young aristocrat girl, Blanche de la Force, is the central character of the story, who flees to the convent driven by her fears. In the Dialogue des Carmélites (presented in French, with Hungarian and English subtitles), the composer depicts the trial of faith through Blanche’s struggles, while the opera concludes with a fantastic and shocking finale. 8pm - 1am: Dope Calypso – album release, Run Over Dogs, No Eves at Kuplung Budapest-based garage-punk band Dope Calypso recently released their latest album, titled “Mau Mau”, and now revelers can listen to fresh songs from the record at Kuplung, one of Budapest’s coolest underground havens. Before the gig, Run Over Dogs and No Eves help you tune in.
8pm - 1am: Fingers Crossed: BASECAMP (USA), iamyank, AGAVOID at Dürer KertThank God it’s Electronic Friday again at Budapest’s Dürer Kert, when the BASECAMP, a trio of three producers, throws a great gig with haunting melodies, intensified by thumping bass lines and heavily percussive drums. Before the electronic ensemble hits the stage, Hungarian music masters iamyank and AGAVOID warm up the scene.

8am - 9am: Santa Claus Run (Mikulás Sziget Run) at Margaret Island Join a team of runners ranging from beginners to long-time joggers and get ready to tackle five kilometers on Budapest’s Margaret Island. The fun run kicks off at the part of the Island closer to Margaret Bridge on the running track at about as far in as the Musical Fountain, on the island’s edge that is nearest to the Pest side. Participation is free of charge – to register visit: www.morfitrun.com/#/runs 10am - : Gozsdu Christmas Fair at Gozsdu UdvarGozsdu Courtyard turns into a jolly Yuletide fair for almost an entire month, awaiting visitors with a special artisanal market featuring an alluring selection of fragrant and flavorful Christmas treats, such as chimney cake and mulled wine, as well as high-quality handmade produce. On December 3rd at 3pm, even Santa Claus makes an appearance with real reindeer, astounding children with exciting programs and heaps of special presents.
4pm - 4am: Tattoo Night at Dürer KertThis year marks the 5th birthday of the Tattoo Night happening at Dürlin and Dürer Kert, where more than 100 outstanding artists of Budapest’s tattoo scene participate, while visitors with a valid ticket have a chance to go home with a free skin-deep memory from the event. Guests can also get piercings done during the event, while concerts, a horror theater, dance shows, and a blackjack table complete the program.
5pm - 6pm: Color Concert at Palace of Arts Every Saturday afternoon, classical tunes fill the foyer at the Palace of Arts during the Color Concert, where students of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and other musical institutions showcase their talent. Admission to the event is free of charge.
11pm - 6am: Avatar Presents: Liquid Soul at A38 Ship Nicola Capobianco, aka Liquid Soul, started playing progressive trance at the end of 1993. In 2006, the music master founded his own label Mikrokosmos records, while in 2010 he achieved his biggest success by being awarded best Beatport artist, and best Beatport track. On Saturday night, he performs at one of Budapest’s most buoyant concert halls aboard the A38 Ship. Sunday

10am - 8pm: Müpa Winter Open Air at Palace of Arts Müpa Winter Open Air kicks off on December 4th at Budapest’s contemporary cultural center, presenting the world’s largest interactive music box to visitors, alongside the Müpa Melody Wheel, an alfresco ice rink, and various fun-filled programs. The Müpa Tent hosts exciting children’s programs, popular music concerts, and spectacular contemporary-circus productions, while guests can enjoy such delightful wintertime activities as sipping on aromatic mulled wine or gliding on ice, and the background music broadcast by Müpa Radio just adds to the fun.
12pm - 4pm: Santa Claus is coming to KIOSK at KIOSK The riverfront KIOSK restaurant turns into a winter wonderland to welcome Santa Claus, who comes to town loaded with presents. On this day, this trendy Budapest hangout is the place to go for families with children, who can frolic amid a festive playground filled with entertaining animators and elves.
3pm - 11pm: Pop-Up Champagne Bar at Buddha-Bar BudapestSip some of the most exclusive champagnes by the glass at this high-class haven set up right across from the entrance of Buddha-Bar’s restaurant on Budapest’s Váci Street. During December 4-23, assorted sparkling sensations and delicious oysters are served to guests every day of the week between 3pm and 11pm, while at 7pm the bartenders uncork a special champagne with a saber.
4:30pm - 9:30pm: Hair movie screening at Bem Cinema The renowned 1979 movie version of this groundbreaking musical depicts the story of Claude, who travels to New York to join the Vietnam War, but after coming across a group of hippies, instead discovers drugs, love, and freedom that gradually change his attitude towards life. The film adaptation is an anti-war parable, filled with surreal fantasies and all-time musical favorites. The movie screens with original English audio and Hungarian subtitles at 4:30pm and 7pm.
7pm - 9pm: Kelemen Quartet – Bartók String Quartets at Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music Founded in 2010, the Kelemen Quartet has already gained considerable success in Europe, in the United States, and in China. The profound commitment of the artists is palpable as they perform works that require a great level of concentration. Sunday evening, the ensemble plays string quartets composed by Hungarian maestro Béla Bartók that are considered milestones of the 20th-century classical music. As of press time, tickets are still available for the performance.
