Budapest’s first fish bistro, Halkakas opened in Veres Pálné utca then moved to the heart of District VII at the end of 2017. They source their ingredients exclusively in Hungary, to make sure they only use fresh goods, never deep-frozen. It’s important to point out that you shouldn’t expect traditional Hungarian flavours in Halkakas; the focus here is on experimentation. Try the smoked carp pâté, the catfish gyros, the unmatched carp crisps or the carp tempura. You can wash it all down with Hungarian wine, craft beer or drinks created from home-made cordial. The place is an ideal choice for an unconventional lunch or, with occasional live music, Halkakas is also great for dinner.
