Whether you're planning a relaxed stroll around Buda Castle, an evening concert at Budapest Park, a family brunch on the Római-part or in Budakeszi, or even a boat trip to the Danube Bend, this year's Pentecost weekend is packed with experiences. We've rounded up a selection of programmes and destinations perfect for catching up with friends, enjoying quality family time, or setting off on a spontaneous city adventure.
Pentecost long weekend at Buda Castle

The Pentecost long weekend is one of those rare moments when there's finally no need to rush anywhere. And the Buda Castle is the perfect setting for slowing down, with its cobbled streets, familiar squares, early summer light, and the kind of conversations there's rarely time for during the week. Start the day with a relaxed lunch at Jamie's Italian Budapest, where it's easy to linger over a good pizza, order another drink, and simply enjoy being together. Afterwards, take a stroll along Tóth Árpád Promenade, grab an ice cream from Zuki's stand next to Spíler Biergarten, then settle in on the terrace for a spritz or a beer. To end the day, head to Baltazár Budapest, where a cocktail finally brings that unmistakable long-weekend feeling. At this time of year, the Castle District becomes more than just a classic Budapest destination - it turns into a full-day shared experience of walks, lunch, ice cream, terrace drinks, and spontaneous sightseeing, all without overplanning. Just spending time together, feeling like tourists in your own city, and letting the day unfold naturally.

Budapest Park rounds off May with a series of standout concerts

We've already shared what Budapest Park has in store for this season, but the venue isn't slowing down during the Pentecost long weekend either. On Friday, 22 May, legendary Hungarian band Kistehén returns to the stage led by László Kollár-Klemencz, bringing back everything fans have loved about them over the years. With seven studio albums released across their two-decade career, there will be no shortage of favourites on the setlist. On Saturday, 23 May, Follow The Flow takes over with a major anniversary concert celebrating ten years of the group's biggest moments and milestones. Then on Sunday, Rádió 1 hosts its birthday celebration at the Park, featuring the station's resident DJs alongside three international performers. The end of May looks just as exciting, with the return of the Csinibaba Táncdalfesztivál inspired by the years around the political transition, plus concerts from Csaknekedkislány and international acts including Scooter and Rilès.

A boat getaway to the Danube Bend

During the Pentecost period, the popular sightseeing boats of MAHART PassNave once again offer the perfect excuse for a getaway to the picturesque Danube Bend. Departing from Vigadó tér at 10:30 am, the Budapest–Szentendre route runs from Wednesday to Sunday throughout the long weekend. The destination is Szentendre, the charming Mediterranean-style riverside town just outside Budapest. Arriving around noon, visitors can spend the afternoon exploring the town's Main Square and Old Town, grabbing a traditional lángos in Szentendre's narrowest street, wandering through the colourful umbrella-covered alley, visiting the Szamos Marzipan Museum, or strolling along the Danube promenade with an ice cream in hand. Those looking for a longer adventure can also try the extended Budapest–Szentendre–Leányfalu–Tahitótfalu–Visegrád sightseeing boat route.
