Bambi Eszpresszó

The near Bambi Margaret Bridge is not affected by time and hardly by the quarantine. Providing a retro and familiar atmosphere, Bambi offers tasty bistro meals such as frankfurters and toasted sandwiches, as well as ice-cold beer. Although the terrace is often packed, it’s worth the wait.

Építészpince

Found in the student quarter by the Ervin Szabó Library, the ‘Architects’ Cellar’ is a rare but great find. Its peaceful inner garden is complemented by an abundant menu, mainly of Hungarian classics. For less overwhelming options, they provide beer snacks and salads as well.

Fat Mama Eatery

Providing BBQ favourites in the heart of the party district, Fat Mama always has juicy meats and great burgers, but also lighter meals such as soups, salads and mains for visitors.

Jardinette

Also surrounded by greenery, Jardinette can be reached by urban scooter or bike, as well as by public transport. Its beautiful garden is filled with the scent of hearty, traditional Hungarian meals, and the drinks selection is also worth investigating.

Kéhli Vendéglő

One of Buda’s oldest restaurants, the Kéhli used to welcome some of Hungary’s greatest literary figures, most notably Gyula Krúdy. The classic atmosphere remains, the steaming marrow bone of yore, the traditional red saucepans, the spacious terrace – what could be better after quarantine?

Majorka

This lovely garden venue at Városmajor Park in Buda opens from Monday with their familiar burgers, sandwiches, salads, snacks and cold drinks. A child-friendly garden, shaded trees and a tranquil atmosphere await.

Menza Étterem és Kávézó

This veteran restaurant on Liszt Ferenc tér has set up its open-air seating space adhering to the rules of social distancing, 1.5 metres set apart between tables beneath tree shade. The flavours and the atmosphere remain as attractive as ever.

Moné Garden

The recently opened Moné Restaurant offers Hungarian-fusion meals, now available on their little terrace below Buda Castle. The outside space is all about grill and BBQ, succulent rib-eye steaks, prawn kebabs and the like, and they also do great wines and cocktails.

Nagy Lumen

This popular hangout in District VIII welcomes back its regulars with a huge terrace, the usual eclectic yet homely menu, delicious coffee, and, of course, refreshing spritzers.

Náncsi Néni Vendéglője

This evergreen favourite among Buda strollers can be found a little further out from the noise of the city. A good choice for those craving traditional flavours, checked tablecloths and a large, shaded garden.

A tiny place with a tiny terrace, but with superior flavours and an impressive menu… in a somewhat remote part of District XI, Non Plus Ultra is always a good choice for a meal, now served outside for all to enjoy.

With a great view of the city, this Italian-fusion restaurant beside the Vienna Gate in the Castle District serves crispy-crust pizzas on its large terrace.
