If you're in the mood for a lazy brunch in central Budapest, Flava Cafe & Brunch on Szabadság tér needs to be on your list. From labneh-topped eggs to crispy fried chicken with waffles (don’t skip this one!), and even a bold matcha-strawberry combo, the menu keeps things interesting. Or maybe you're more of a classic breakfast type – either way, you're in for a treat. One thing’s for sure: you won’t leave hungry.

Since March, Flava Cafe & Brunch (within Flava Kitchen&More) has launched a special breakfast menu, and you can sample it every day between 11 am and 4 pm. Top chef Imre Varjú and his team have put together a banging brunch menu where classic dishes rub shoulders with some rather unique signature creations. Whether you're after something really substantial that could easily stand in for lunch, or you'd prefer a lighter bite, they've got you covered. Got a hankering for savoury or sweet? Is your palate leaning towards traditional fare or something a bit more international? Need lactose and gluten-free options? No worries, there's something for everyone – and that's exactly what they were aiming for with both the food and the drinks.

The Flava Cafe & Brunch has a much more laid-back vibe than their evening service, so you'll see tourists in their trainers having a breather from all the sightseeing, alongside trendy youngsters snapping away for Instagram, and even some more smartly dressed folk all enjoying themselves.

In the mornings, the staff keep things casual with their attire, and Flava has even brought out its own brunch polo shirt collection that the waiters sport. And get this, we can even buy these shirts ourselves if we fancy the different colours and designs.

With all its greenery and quirky little decorations, the inside of Flava feels like a proper urban jungle – a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of Október 6. utca. And when the weather's playing ball, you can tuck into your breakfast either inside or on the massive terrace that overlooks the lovely green trees of the nearby park.

Bun’n’roll: A must-try

This spiral croissant dough bun, crispy outside and buttery inside, comes in four delish versions. Try the Smokin' with smoked mayo, bacon, fried egg, and cheddar, or the Goated with grilled goat's cheese, rocket, sun-dried tomatoes, and onion jam. The Juicy has a beef patty, bacon, fried onions, fried egg, and rocket. We loved the Eggstra with smoked salmon, poached egg, hollandaise, and spinach.

Classics with a twist

Even the old favourites don't turn up at your table in the usual way here. Fancy a bit of Mexican or maybe something Eastern? Or perhaps English, French, or American? Not only do the plates look the business, but they also treat you to a proper explosion of flavours. When it comes to ingredients, they make everything themselves, from the granola to the focaccia and even the jam.

The Tostadas feature crispy tortillas topped with tasty beef ragout, roasted pinto beans, avocado, and tomato – perfectly spiced.

The Japanese-inspired karaage chicken on a waffle with yuzu mayo, peanuts, coriander, and sesame seeds is super crispy and juicy – easily a lunch substitute.

To conclude your meal, Flava's banana bread is simply perfect – light and spiced, served with mascarpone ice cream, tangy jam, and peanut butter. The American pancakes are also a winner for those with a sweet tooth.

Egg-cellent options & healthy bites

Eggs are a big deal here, featuring in the Bun'n'roll and the full English, but that's just for starters. You can get your eggs scrambled, as an omelette, poached, or fried, or even with a 150g rib-eye steak! We sampled the rather special Turkish poached eggs: served in creamy, tangy labneh with brown butter, paprika, mint, parsley, and crispy toasted onions, with focaccia on the side for dipping. Fancy extras? You can also order naan, hash browns, or sweet potato.

For the health-conscious, there's avocado toast alongside a gluten-free acai bowl packed with homemade granola, yoghurt, coconut milk, avocado, and lovely seasonal fruits like strawberries right now. The pistachio and raspberry mille-feuille is also dairy-free, so great for those with sensitivities.

Drinks: Matcha, smoothies & morning tipples

As well as a classic matcha latte, their matcha tonic and strawberry iced matcha (with a strawberry foam on top!) are sure summer hits. They've got green, red, and yellow smoothies, plus freshly pressed juices, mint or ginger tea, proper coffees, and classic breakfast cocktails like a Mimosa, Breakfast Martini, and Kir Royal.

Whether you're with your other half, mates, or the family, if you fancy a long brunch with top service, great vibes, and buzzing flavours, you'll leave Flava Brunch feeling properly chuffed.
