If you're looking for a countryside getaway where both children and adults can truly unwind, the newly renovated Zichy Family Estate is well worth a visit. Set on a 12-hectare estate in Bikács, it brings together the tranquillity of nature, wellness facilities, excellent gastronomy and a wide range of family-friendly activities, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing escape.

Located in the Tolna region, in the peaceful surroundings of Bikács-Kistápé Liget, the Zichy Family Estate has been created through the complete transformation of the former Zichy Park Hotel. The result is a countryside retreat designed with families in mind, where every detail caters to the needs of those travelling with young children. The estate's concept is simple: to offer memorable experiences for every generation, all while encouraging guests to slow down and reconnect with nature.

While fun is at the heart of the experience, there's also a strong emphasis on learning through play, giving children the chance to explore, discover and stay engaged throughout their stay. Meanwhile, parents and grandparents can make the most of the estate's peaceful setting, wellness facilities and family-friendly amenities. Surrounded by nature and with plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to choose from, it's the kind of place where spending quality time together comes effortlessly.

The Zichy Family Estate also marks a new chapter for the Eventrend Group, expanding its portfolio with a destination dedicated entirely to family-friendly travel and experiences. Built on the site of the former Zichy Park Hotel following an extensive redevelopment, the estate draws on the group's decades of experience in hospitality and event management. More than just a hotel, it has been conceived as a year-round destination, offering a diverse programme of activities and experiences for guests of all ages.

As Gábor Nagy, one of Eventrend's founding owners, explains:

The Zichy Family Estate marks a completely new chapter for our company. We've spent almost four years bringing it to life with equal measures of passion and responsibility, and our greatest hope is that families - especially children - will still look back on the memories they made here many years from now.

Eventrend co-founder Zoltán Kőrössy added:

The mission of the Zichy Family Estate is to create a place where quality time together becomes a truly memorable experience. Designed primarily for families with children aged up to 12, the estate encourages play, exploration and a close connection with nature. Beyond providing entertainment, it also aims to nurture a love for the Hungarian countryside and its native wildlife. We want children to discover different plants and animals, put their screens aside for a few hours, and learn about protecting the natural world through hands-on experiences - because caring for our environment is a responsibility we all share.

Gábor Kusnyár, Managing Director and an Eventrend partner, was involved in shaping the concept from the very beginning and oversaw every stage of the estate's extensive redevelopment. Speaking at the opening, he said:

The concept is built around creating a place where children can play freely and explore their surroundings while adults enjoy a chance to properly unwind, ensuring that every member of the family finds something to enjoy in the same destination. The Zichy Family Estate doesn't aim to be a luxury hotel. Instead, the focus is on meaningful time together, nature-inspired experiences and thoughtfully designed family-friendly facilities. Our goal was to create a welcoming, high-quality retreat where families can reconnect and make lasting memories.

Comfortable, nature-inspired rooms for every type of stay

With a total of 48 rooms spread across the main building and three separate buildings full of rustic charm, the estate offers accommodation to suit a variety of travel styles. Together, the rooms can host up to 161 guests, making the property equally well suited to family holidays, weddings and corporate events.

The estate offers a range of room types designed to suit different guests. Couples and grandparents can opt for stylish double comfort rooms, while families travelling with children can choose from several spacious options, including interconnected rooms, family rooms with balconies and the generously sized Estate Rooms. Located close to the petting zoo, the latter are particularly well suited to families looking to make the most of the estate's child-friendly facilities.

Families travelling with babies and toddlers will appreciate the thoughtful practical touches throughout the estate. Instead of packing half the nursery, guests can make use of a wide range of baby equipment, including cots, baby monitors, bath tubs, bed guards, potty chairs and toilet training seats. Childproof sockets, balcony locks and safety locks on entrance doors add extra peace of mind, while the on-site BoriBari First Aid Shop stocks essentials for treating minor cuts, insect bites and coughs should the need arise.

The thoughtfully designed rooms draw inspiration from Hungary's native flora, with each one taking its name and colour palette from a different plant, including chamomile, cornflower, milk thistle, sunflower and rosehip. While the interiors celebrate nature, the rooms are equipped with modern, practical amenities and offer plenty of space for families, including multi-generational stays. To make them even more memorable for younger guests, each room is also associated with a different animal, while the windows overlook the estate's park, lake or surrounding woodland.

Unwind together: wellness for the whole family

The beautifully redesigned Harmatliget Wellness Centre continues the estate's nature-inspired aesthetic while offering something for every generation. Families can enjoy the indoor and outdoor adventure pools with massage jets, alongside a dedicated paddling pool for little ones, while those seeking a slower pace can unwind in the jacuzzis, salt room or sauna area, complete with Finnish, infrared and aroma saunas, as well as a steam cabin. The wellness facilities have been thoughtfully designed so families can enjoy the water together, without compromising on opportunities for adults to truly relax.

The dedicated paddling pool features warm, shallow water and colourful play elements, creating a safe and enjoyable space for the youngest guests. The remaining pools are equally inviting, with warm water, soft lighting and calming colours that enhance the relaxing atmosphere. Comfortable family loungers and a spacious sun terrace overlooking the playground - complete with an outdoor jacuzzi - provide the perfect setting to unwind while keeping an eye on little ones at play.

Zichy Restaurant: Where local flavours meet family-friendly dining

Dining at the estate celebrates the flavours of the Hungarian countryside, combining fresh, locally sourced ingredients with modern cooking techniques and beautifully presented dishes. Seasonal vegetables, fruit and much of the meat come from nearby producers, reflecting the estate's commitment to sustainability. Younger guests are encouraged to discover new flavours through dedicated children's menus and the playful guidance of Bori Bari, while empty plates are rewarded to inspire adventurous eating. There's also a separate children's buffet, baby food options and a wide selection of dishes catering to different dietary requirements.

Breakfast has been thoughtfully designed with every member of the family in mind. At a child-friendly, low-height buffet, little ones can choose from mini pancakes with a selection of jams, fresh fruit and vegetables, miniature pastries, hot dogs, cereals, smoothies, cocoa, semolina pudding and porridge. Meanwhile, adults can enjoy an extensive breakfast spread featuring everything from freshly prepared egg dishes and homemade spreads to seasonal vegetables and other hot and cold options. The half-board offering also includes a generous buffet dinner, where Executive Chef Dániel Juhász and his team serve a varied selection of dishes. From Hungarian favourites and grilled vegetables to meat-based, vegetarian and vegan options, there's something to suit every taste.

Families with children under the age of seven can also take advantage of a dedicated children's all-inclusive package in addition to the half-board offering. Throughout the day, the children's buffet is stocked with yoghurts, baby food, biscuits, breadsticks and other light snacks, so little ones can help themselves whenever hunger strikes between meals. The restaurant is equally well equipped for younger guests, with high chairs, booster seats, children's tableware and cutlery, as well as bibs readily available.

During the day, the Beach Bar is the perfect spot to take a break by the water, serving light bites, premium coffee and refreshing drinks. The menu features a carefully selected range of wines from the Szekszárd and Vál wine regions, locally brewed craft beer from Cece, and a selection of cocktails. Those looking for alcohol-free options are equally well catered for, with premium mocktails and homemade fruit cordials also on offer.

Meet Bori Bari

Throughout our visit, it quickly became clear that every aspect of the estate - from the rooms and wellness facilities to the restaurant - has been designed with families in mind. Bringing it all together is Bori Bari, the estate's cheerful mascot, around whom the entire concept revolves. Children are introduced to Bori Bari as soon as they arrive, with plenty of opportunities to pose for photos, spot life-sized figures around the estate and discover the character in murals throughout the property. They can even take a plush version home as a keepsake, while Bori Bari's story, available on the estate's website, comes to life throughout the hotel.

Created by Krisztina Kusnyár, the lovable little character was born right here on the estate. Curious by nature, Bori Bari sets out to discover the plants and animals that call the farm home, inspiring children to do the same. Through Bori Bari's adventures, young guests can learn more about nature and the wildlife around them in a fun and engaging way. They can write letters to the friendly mascot, follow the character's stories, meet Bori Bari's animal friends at the petting farm, and enjoy a variety of interactive games across the estate's expansive green spaces.

The estate also offers plenty of indoor entertainment for children of all ages. Younger guests can enjoy a playroom filled with toys made from natural materials, which is conveniently visible from the restaurant, allowing parents to keep an eye on little ones while they dine. On rainy days, an additional play area upstairs provides a great alternative, with safe climbing frames, slides and a ball pit designed for preschool and primary school-aged children. Teenagers haven't been forgotten either, with table football, a pool table and a selection of board games to keep them entertained.

Outdoors, children can explore a charming farm-themed playground, where older adventurers can climb Bori Bari's favourite oak tree, while younger visitors can enjoy spring riders and slides. Right next door, the stable introduces budding equestrians to the world of horse riding, with pony rides also available. Young explorers who complete the challenges scattered around the estate are rewarded with a small surprise, such as a wooden toy or a freshly baked treat.

Children can put their coordination to the test on the motor skills course before following the adventure trail, where QR-code information boards introduce them to native Hungarian farm animals. A varied programme of daily activities, from arts and crafts sessions to group games, keeps young guests entertained throughout the day. Sustainability is also woven into the estate's family experience. Guests are invited to take part in planting a new forest, a hands-on activity that offers a fun way to connect with nature while leaving a lasting mark on the estate. A pushchair-friendly nature trail is also set to be created as part of the project.

The newly renovated Zichy Family Estate is much more than a traditional wellness hotel. It's a destination designed for families, where relaxation, nature and quality time come together in one place. Wake up to birdsong and enjoy a stay where everything you need is right on your doorstep - from comfortable, family-friendly rooms equipped with thoughtful amenities to a beautiful wellness centre, a welcoming restaurant and a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities. Whether you're planning a relaxing weekend escape or a longer family holiday, the estate offers memorable experiences in every season.

The Zichy Family Estate is part of the Eventrend Group, one of Hungary's leading hospitality and event management companies. With more than 30 years of experience, the group now operates nearly 35 projects and employs around 1,300 people. Its portfolio includes some of Budapest's best-known hospitality venues, including Centrál Café, Gundel Restaurant, New York Café, Városliget Café & Restaurant, Spoon The Boat, Főőrség Café, Séf Asztala, Symbol, as well as the catering services at Groupama Arena and Müpa.
