Comfortable gelato experience upstairs
A few minutes' walk from Oktogon, the newest Bruno Gelateria has opened at 1 Jókai Street. The address can be slightly misleading, as the entrance is set within a larger building complex, so you'll need to walk a bit in from the corner to find it. Alongside its gelato selection, the shop also offers desserts and, of course, coffee. What's new at this location is that you can enjoy your treats both on the ground floor and in a spacious gallery upstairs. A terrace is also planned, pending permits, and as the place has only just opened, there's not yet any signage on the street front.


A single scoop - or “kenés” (50 grams) - is priced at HUF 630, while 250 grams of gelato comes in at HUF 3,150, roughly the equivalent of five scoops (and not for the faint-hearted). The flavour selection remains consistent across all locations, but according to Noémi, the manager of the Jókai Street shop, the dark chocolate-raspberry combination is by far the most popular, with pistachio also a firm favourite. The mango and other dairy-free fruit options offer a lighter, refreshing choice, while the creamier chocolate-based flavours feel almost as indulgent as a slice of cake.

The Viennese strudel (HUF 1,290) or the pistachio cannolo (HUF 750) make ideal companions to a coffee, and if you're in the mood to take it a step further, go for an Italian-style iced coffee - an affogato - where a scoop of gelato is “drowned” in espresso (HUF 1,250 with one scoop).

Everything is prepared in-house at their Kolosy Square kitchen, so just like at the Hollán Ernő Street location, you'll find the same well-established flavours in the city centre as well.
