Simple and Hungarian
The restaurant is run by a team already well established in the world of fine dining. LISZT was created alongside their other venue, sharing the same space, yet offering a completely different concept - not only in its menu, but also in its interior and overall atmosphere.

The interior, along with the folk-inspired hand-painted mural, is the work of architect Eszter Kaderják, who shaped the space using flea market-sourced plates, a restored sideboard and archival Fortepan photographs. The overall feel is warm and homely, yet subtly refined. The menu follows the same philosophy: simple dishes prepared with high-quality ingredients and professional techniques.

The goulash soup steals the show
The standout dish at LISZT is undoubtedly the beef goulash soup (HUF 4,550), and it's treated with the attention it deserves. Deep in flavour, rich and hearty, it's packed with both vegetables and tender meat. It brings to mind those slow-simmered, open-fire versions you'd expect from a summer cauldron, even though it's prepared in a modern kitchen. Served with sourdough bread, it's the kind of dish that invites you to soak up every last spoonful.

The starters also showcase the best of Hungarian cuisine, from casino eggs (HUF 3,850) served with tuna cream and braised spinach, to classically seasoned steak tartare (HUF 6,750), and a silky chicken liver pâté (HUF 3,250). The latter leans slightly towards a more refined bistro style, yet remains grounded and in line with LISZT's straightforward, no-frills approach.

The mains offer both meat and vegetarian options. The breaded mangalica pork loin (HUF 5,750) represents the traditional classics, served not with fries but with a mustard potato salad. The meat is thin and tender, while the salad adds a pleasantly tangy, light and well-balanced contrast. The chicken paprikash (HUF 6,550) is another must-try, featuring succulent chicken thigh and freshly made nokedli. It's best enjoyed with a side of sour cream cucumber salad, which is just as well-executed as the potato salad.

Vegetarian options include layered potatoes and a pasta with cheese sauce (HUF 5,350), both far from being afterthoughts. The layered potatoes take on a creamy, French-inspired style, while the pasta is served with a white cheddar sauce and grilled courgette.

For those in the mood for fish, salmon is also on offer, while a warm Caesar salad with a slightly different twist caters to those following a lighter, more fitness-focused diet. As expected from a proper Hungarian kitchen, sides like mixed pickles or sourdough bread can be added to any dish.
For dessert, the choice is between rice pudding and somlói, both priced at HUF 3,350. The somlói skips the raisins, instead generously layered with chocolate, walnuts and whipped cream. The rice pudding, meanwhile, is far from canteen-style, brightened with green apple for a fresher finish.

“Sit back and feel at home!”
The restaurant's philosophy is to create a welcoming space for both first-time visitors to Hungarian cuisine and those already familiar with its flavours. The wine list features exclusively Hungarian wineries, while the cocktail and spirits selection remains open to well-known international options. LISZT positions itself as a relaxed comfort kitchen, where countryside flavours are presented with a professional touch, yet retain the character that makes them appealing to both locals and visitors alike.
