Chances are you won't come across anything cuter today: Agnes, the female Siberian tiger, has just given birth to two healthy cubs, and you can already catch a glimpse of them. For now, it's online only, but in just a few weeks, you'll be able to admire them in person. Just one more reason to plan a visit to the Budapest Zoo & Botanical Gardens!

Touring the Budapest Zoo & Botanical Gardens is always fun and educational – no wonder it made it onto our list of the best family-friendly activities in the city. And now, there's even more reason to visit: on 13 April, tiger cubs were born! It's a pretty big deal, considering the last time something like this happened was almost 12 years ago. The cubs born back then (Grusha and Macan) have since grown up and moved to another zoo, according to a post on the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden's Facebook page.

The post also mentions that the newborn tiger cubs, just over two weeks old, need plenty of peace and quiet right now, so for the time being, only their caretakers can see them. We'll have to wait a little longer – but trust us, it'll be worth it. Just watch the video below and see for yourself!

What about the parents?

Agnes, the mother, was born at the zoo in Hluboká nad Vltavou, Czech Republic, in 2021, and spent the first years of her life there before arriving in Budapest in 2024. Dáriusz, the father, is a bit older – he was born in 2017 at the Debrecen Zoo and moved to the Budapest Zoo last year. Both tigers were brought here specifically to join the tiger breeding program initiated by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), to help preserve these increasingly rare big cats.

So, when can we actually catch a glimpse of the cubs in real life?

We don't know just yet – but keep an eye on the Zoo's Facebook page for updates!
