The Gundel's musical evenings are specifically designed for the 30-something crowd. This monthly programme isn't just about getting people onto the dance floor – it's a cultural journey with some clever educational twists. You'll get insights into ballroom etiquette, dance history, and even hear legendary stories from Gundel's 130-year heritage. Their long-term vision includes community building, hoping that friendships will blossom, and guests will keep coming back for more.

Nothing's mandatory, but everything comes highly recommended
The first of these evenings launches on 23rd April, with subsequent events on the last Wednesday of every month. It's perfect for those who fancy a nice dinner followed by some dancing in a truly authentic setting. Part of the restaurant's interior will transform into a dance floor, where professional dancers are on hand to help you polish your moves or rekindle those dusty dance memories.
Jenő Magyary, owner and managing director of Eventrend Group, explained that if there's sufficient interest – and preliminary surveys suggest there is – they might even increase the frequency of these events.
We want to get people moving, invite them to dance, continuing the Gundel's century-old mission that has always transcended typical hospitality. We're offering a sophisticated, entertaining, and much-needed programme for both Hungarian and international guests,
he shared.

Following the philosophy of Károly Gundel, the restaurant has always been a beacon of hospitality, attentiveness, innovation, and tradition preservation – a legacy they're keen to continue in the present day.

Accessible to everyone
True to their predecessors' vision, they've designed the concept to be inclusive. There's no entry fee, no dress code, and no minimum spend. You simply need to book a table, but if space allows, anyone can join. During the summer, when the event can be held in the garden, up to 300 people could participate. The indoor space is naturally more limited, but as the organisers quipped, joyful dancing doesn't require much room.

Entertainment, education, and community building
Gábor Nagy, another Eventrend Group owner, candidly admitted:
I've personally experienced losing the courage to dance, and there's been nowhere in Budapest where I could. Here, we'll have that opportunity. Beyond education, community building and creating memorable experiences will be crucial to these evenings.

Zoltán Kőrössy, the third owner, added:
Károly Gundel himself was an extraordinary personality who created groundbreaking experiences in his time. We want to continue that legacy.

It's not just about improving dance skills. The evenings will be hosted by Zsolt Lukács, who'll transport guests into the world of historic ballrooms. He'll share fascinating insights into the customs, etiquette, and intriguing stories of a bygone era. Drawing on the restaurant's 130-year history, the events will explore the evolution of food, clothing, and music.
Learning from the professionals
The other host for the evening will be Andrea Keleti, a professional dancer, who'll arrive with dancers from her own dance school.
In Western Europe, dance culture is booming – going out dancing is simply part of the lifestyle. Nearly 700 dance enthusiasts attend the school I run, so there's definitely demand for these programmes. Unfortunately, opportunities have been quite limited until now. That's why I was thrilled when I received the invitation – I've been waiting for such a groundbreaking venue and event for a long time,
– she explained.
Andrea will attend every evening with her husband, teaching guests a specific dance based on a pre-determined theme. For those unfamiliar with the steps or whose skills have grown a bit rusty, they'll provide guidance to help everyone dance freely during the rest of the evening.

Long-term goal: Reviving the Gundel Balls
Based on initial surveys, the event series is set to be incredibly popular. Their not-so-hidden aim is to ensure everyone can confidently step onto the dance floor at the Gundel Ball planned for next February – an event aimed at reviving traditional celebrations. The ball, like these musical evenings, won't be about pomp and ceremony, but about coming together, having a great time, and enjoying an elegant yet relaxed evening within the Gundel community.

Speaking of Gundel, one can't ignore the menu. While consumption isn't mandatory, it's worth sampling a few iconic dishes from their extensive collection – from the classic Gundel Pancake to Újházi chicken soup and Wiener schnitzel.

They're also responsive to modern dietary needs, offering vegan menu options. Dining becomes a special experience – enjoying meals on beautifully set tables, in a magical environment, using exquisite Zsolnay porcelain. The dining experience itself is elevated, with the musical dance evenings adding that extra touch of magic.
