Cziniel Confectionery, a family-friendly gem on the popular Roman Beach, is all dressed up for Christmas. With its cosy vibes, delicious breakfasts, and a lineup of Hungarian festive sweets and cakes, it’s a great way to soak up the season. Nestled in one of Budapest’s most atmospheric neighbourhoods, it’s perfect if you’re looking to go beyond the usual Christmas markets.

Római-part (Roman Beach) in North Buda made Condé Nast Traveler's '50 Things to Do in Europe Before You Die' list – and for a good reason. It’s a go-to spot for beers and summer vibes, but don’t sleep on it in winter! Start with a lazy breakfast at Cziniel Confectionery, then hit the riverbank for a crisp, scenic walk. Bonus? It’s just a 20-minute ride on bus 106 from Göncz Árpád City Center.

Sumptuous breakfasts and pastries

Elevate your mornings with Cziniel Confectionery's exquisite breakfast menu. From classic favourites to innovative delights, there's something to tantalise every taste bud. Indulge in classic favourites like fried eggs with Bavarian sausage or a generous plate of ham and eggs. Try the tomato bean ragout or sautéed mushrooms for a more adventurous palate. The Benedict selection offers a variety of mouthwatering choices, including premium ham, creamy goat cheese, or a decadent mushroom option with poached eggs, mushroom cream, and white beech mushrooms. Each Benedict is served on a warm English muffin with rich hollandaise sauce and a side salad.

If you prefer something lighter, opt for one of their three scrumptious scrambled egg options: spicy Hungarian, vegetable, or natural. Ham and eggs with grilled veggies and stuffed French toast with cream and chives are also crowd favourites.

All of these breakfast delights are available until lunchtime and are so generous, they can easily satisfy even the heartiest appetite.

And for those with a sweet tooth, their breakfast pastries are simply divine. Indulge in homemade granola, creamy porridge, or a decadent French toast topped with fresh fruit and rich chocolate sauce.

As the temperature drops, cosy up by the fireplace with a warm beverage. Choose from a variety of hot chocolates, specialty winter coffees, matcha lattes, or a unique Cziniel coffee. Don't miss out on festive treats, including delightful gingerbread houses and Rudolph the Reindeer bejgli, the Hungarian Christmas staple dessert.

Cziniel offers a delightful range of cakes, from classic Hungarian treats like Dobos cake (a Hungarian sponge cake layered with chocolate buttercream and topped with caramel) to modern, French-inspired mono-desserts.

Whether you're a fan of traditional flavours or prefer something a bit more experimental, there's something for everyone. And don't worry if you have dietary restrictions – many of their cakes are available in vegan, sugar-free, gluten-free, or paleo versions. If you're looking for something smaller, Cziniel also offers a variety of cupcakes, from classic panna cotta to unique pistachio tiramisu and chia pudding.

For a truly indulgent experience, try one of their three special desserts: a paleo brownie with vanilla ice cream, a light and airy curd cheese soufflé with strawberries, or their reimagined Somlói sponge cake. This iconic Hungarian dessert is layered with sponge cake, cream, and toasted nuts, then topped with a hot chocolate sauce poured tableside for a truly decadent treat.

Cziniel isn't just about sweet treats. Their savoury snacks are equally impressive. We particularly enjoyed the wild garlic and pumpkin seed scones, the cheesy pretzel sticks, and the sweet indulgences like chocolate puffs, mini Ischler (a round cookie made of shortcrust pastries coated with chocolate), macskanyelv (a chocolate stick named after the shape of a cat's tongue), Florentines and chocolate Nero (basically the Hungarian version of chocolate macarons).

For special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, or weddings, Cziniel offers stunning custom-designed cakes with figurines or photos.

To complement your meal, choose from a variety of refreshing beverages, including flavoured and sugar-free lemonades, fresh juices, premium teas, invigorating smoothies, and pressed juices. For those seeking something a bit stronger, they offer classic cocktails and a selection of fine wines from Váli Winery.

Revamped interior

Cziniel's recently renovated interior combines modern design with a cosy, inviting atmosphere. Relax by the fireplace, sink into a comfortable chair, or unwind on a soft sofa. And for families with young children, there's a dedicated kids' corner complete with a play kitchen and cushions. It's the perfect spot for little ones to play while parents enjoy their meal or a leisurely coffee.

Future plans

Cziniel's vision is to become the go-to spot for locals and visitors to Roman Beach. They aim to create a welcoming space where friends, families, and business partners can enjoy memorable moments, whether it's a leisurely breakfast, a delicious pastry and coffee, or a cosy winter evening by the fireplace

Exciting times are ahead, as Cziniel is set to open a second location in Budakeszi, just outside Budapest, in Spring 2025. This new location, nestled near Wildlife Park, will offer the same high-quality food and exceptional service that Cziniel is known for.
