While pedestrians and cyclists have taken over the riverside road between Margaret Bridge and Elizabeth Bridge on the weekends since March, now a shorter section is going car-free for 3 full weeks.

On March 15th, the embankment between Margaret Bridge and  Elizabeth Bridge was declared car-free for the spring and summer weekends. Now, the car-free zone is extending to weekdays on a shorter section: city-dwellers can reclaim the road between Eötvös tér (near the Chain Bridge) and Irányi utca (near Elizabeth Bridge) between July 26th and August 15th

That means you can elevate your holiday in the Hungarian capital by walking, cycling, or skating on this section, basking in the sunshine, stopping for a drink at the Viadukt Bár, and taking in the stunning views of the Chain Bridge, the Buda Castle, and Gellért HillOn the weekends, you can continue to enjoy the direct proximity of the Danube in a longer car-free environment between Margaret Bridge and Elizabeth Bridge.

Several events are about to pop up, too, find them on the Hungarian site or go for a walk and see what's happening yourself!

Tip for drivers: drivers can most easily bypass the closed road section via the Hungária körút, while in the city centre, using the Kiskörút or the lower Buda quay is recommended.
