The public procurement of the section of the lower Pest embankment between Parliament and Margaret Bridge has now been settled, so the development of this 500-metre section into a cycle- and pedestrian-friendly one will soon begin. With this reconstruction, the aim is to create a connected Danube promenade, from the Duna Aréna north of Margaret Island to the Shoes on the Danube just south of Parliament.

Currently open for cyclists and pedestrians at weekends, the riverbank in downtown Pest is being reconfigured to create a tree-lined promenade four to five metres across. Geography dictates that the strip will be narrower around Markó utca near Olimpia Park.

Cars at reduced speeds will still be able to use most sections and access to the river will be improved.
