Dance celebration at the Millenáris – here comes the Budapest Dance Festival!

On the opening night of the Budapest Dance Festival, the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève will present two performances, Glory and Paron, a harmony of sound and movement performed to the music of Handel and Glass.


The Dutch company Scapino Ballet Rotterdam bring three significantly different productions to Budapest. Choreographed by Justin de Jager, Carried Alive is based on the threading technique known from break dancing, while Ed Wubbe should enchant with his charming duet Risonanza. His piece The Great Bean then takes the audience into the Roaring Twenties. 

The closing performance of the festival will be performed by the contemporary dance company, tanzmainz. Soul Chain was created by Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal, who combines ballet and electro into an exciting new fusion.

One of the leading performers in Hungarian dance will certainly make this year’s festival memorable: Kossuth Prize-winning Andrea Ladányi will share the space with the six outstanding male dance artists with whom she has carved out her career so far. 

Three Hungarian ensembles will also enrich this year’s Dance Festival with their own shows. The Feledi Project will be presenting Don Quixote, Chaos | The Waves is a production by the Ballet Company of Győr, while the 60th anniversary evening of the Ballet Pécs also awaits.


Having recently presented ten performances online, the National Dance Theatre can wave goodbye to those exceptional circumstances, and audiences can now see all ten performances live. The Szeged Contemporary Dance Company present the playful dance The Black Paintings | Blue, and you can also look forward to lavish productions by the Gangaray Dance Company, the Compagnie Pál Frenák, Zsófia Pirók and the FlamenCorazónArte Dance Theatre.

Gerzson Péter Kovács and TranzDanz will give an unforgettable performance for fans of folk dance, while the Duna Dance Workshop will combine elements of authentic folk and contemporary dance. The Székesfehérvár Ballet Theatre come with that evergreen classic, Swan Lake, the Badora Dance Company seek the answer to the connection between perception and reality in their performance of KINGDOM, while RAMAZURI by the Éva Duda Dance Company will be a real dance circus cavalcade.


For the first part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Budapest Dance Theatre, You Will Return Once, five guest choreographers will make short choreographies for their dance artists, followed by Jiří Pokorný’s own take on You Will Return Once.
