Extraordinary pancakes and pie specialities can be found on the Danube riverside at Pancake Planet Beach, opened in Újbuda this summer.

With a little exaggeration, it can be said that everyone likes pancakes. However, Pancake Planet Beach, which opened this June, offers neither Hungarian-style favourites nor the French version. Here you can taste the American type of pancake, which is made with all sorts of savoury and sweet toppings.

This costs 690 forints, but if chosen with a cordial drink as well, it’s 1,090 forints. The savoury selection consists of sausage, bacon, blue cheese, prosciutto-and-cream-cheese and salmon-and-cream-cheese. In the case of pies, the price varies according to what goes inside: ham (HUF 1,890), chicken (HUF 2,090), vegetarian/vegan (HUF 1,990).

There’s even more to it than that – across from the beach, a cosy lounge area with sunshades has been set up, and regular concerts are organised, as well as food tastings. Deliciously tasty pancakes and pies are just the icing on the cake.

The only disadvantage is that PPB is a bit hidden. It’s in District XI, on the banks of the Danube, next to a bike path. You’ll find it alongside the Dunaparty Megálló club, the party place in a red London bus. Take tram 17, 41, 47, 48 or 56 to Budafok kocsiszín, from where it’s about a 15-minute walk.
