Express bus 100E linking Budapest airport with the city centre is now back and running after the service was halted during the pandemic shutdown. It now shuttles every half-hour, from 7am and 9pm, between Arrivals and Deák Ferenc tér in town. Special tickets (900 HUF) are available from machines or via your mobile.
With nearly 90,000 passengers using Budapest airport in May, and many more expected in June with the city co-hosting the Euro football tournament, the 100E express bus has been reintroduced to allow travellers to reach the city in about 40 minutes.
At the airport, the bus stop is close to the Arrivals terminal, past the taxi kiosk. Buy a ticket from the English-friendly machine alongside – look out for the plane logo on the interface. Cash in forints or credit cards are accepted. The driver or an assistant by the stop will check your ticket as you board, using only the front door.
Alternatively, use your mobile to buy a ticket – in the English version, under 'Transport Mobile Ticket Fare Products’, go to 'Tickets for one ride’ and the 'Airport shuttle bus single ticket’ option appears. When boarding, enter the app and select your already purchased ticket. Then press 'Vehicle Validation’ and scan the code. The animated symbol that appears must be presented to the driver or staff.
Standard city transport tickets (350 HUF) or passes are not valid for this service.
At Deák Ferenc tér, the airport-bound stop is by Városháza tér, the large cobbled square lined with billboards.
