The gateway to Óbuda has long been neglected so the local council has decided to revamp the area, starting by demolishing the pavilions installed here decades ago. Applications to redesign the square have just been assessed, with Minőségi Óbudáért Konzorcium (Consortium for a Quality Óbuda) selected as the winning entry.
As the first part of this two-phase development, a grilled breakfast outlet, café, cigarette shop and public toilets will be completed, while the building planned for the centre of the square will follow within three years. Communal activities will be the focus throughout.
