Szaletly, operating on the site of the former Thököly restaurant, has lent an extra dimension to gastronomy in the district of Zugló. From its Winter Garden, it now offers seasonal delicacies to take away at weekends.

Opened last summer, Szaletly was an instant success in Zugló, with guests coming from further afield to see what had become of the former Thököly restaurant. It quickly opened a garden, as a major remodel was being planned for both the kitchen and the interior dining room.

Due to the pandemic restrictions, renovation took a bit longer, but the kitchen is finally being built and embellished. In the meantime, home delivery has been outsourced in customised fashion – the same chefs cook the same recipes, only for Szaletly’s outside location.

Open at weekends, the Winter Garden has a short menu with seasonal dishes, house favourites, hot drinks and other delicacies.

They currently offer two types of soup, salads, main courses, street food and desserts, and you can also buy top-quality mangalica sausages from Megyaszó, homemade cordials and jams.

The outdoor pavilion will not close once the main area is complete – the renovation of the kitchen is expected to take until mid-May, so the Winter Garden and home delivery are assured until then.

They promise that as soon as they can reopen, a couple of chairs and an outdoor tables will be put out so you can enjoy the seasonally changing dishes that will be spring-oriented by then.

If you visit on a Saturday, you have a good chance of running into a guest chef working with Dani Bernát, and you’ll also be able to choose from grilled dishes alongside the fixed menu.
