Applications are now open for designers to create a new public park on Csepel, a former industrial island. The zone should have large rest areas and clearings, hiking and cycle trails, promenades, paths, sheltered, wooded groves, communal gardens, sports courts, outdoor gyms, climbing walls and skateboard parks, benches and Danube-facing terraces, as well as bicycle and pedestrian bridges towards the embankment in District IX, south Pest.
This video shows how the site looks now – so there's plenty of work to be done!
Locals will also be involved in the planning, online for the time being, then, as soon as possible, in forums. The tender closes in May 2021, and the selected final layout should be completed within two years, in consultation with the public and municipalities.
Of special interest will be a wetland, an area that uses rainwater in an environmentally friendly way, improving the urban microclimate. Some of the rainwater nourishes the plants, the rest is stored to irrigate in dry weather.
