This weekend, the lower quay of the Pest embankment between Liberty Bridge and Margaret Bridge was closed to car traffic. Tied to a special promise made and kept by city mayor Gergely Karácsony, the curfew was lifted for cyclists and pedestrians to ride their bikes or stroll by Budapest’s most scenic downtown spot. Here’s how it looked.

Right by the Danube, backdropped by the dramatic panorama of Buda, cyclists and pedestrians reclaimed the embankment in a responsible manner, hopefully prefacing another memorable summer in Hungary’s capital.
