The City Park has been the subject of major ongoing changes, with the second phase of renovation due to be completed this autumn. New developments include a botanical garden, sports courts and a promenade.

The 100-hectare City Park has long been a favoured spot for many locals, and continuing renovations looking to be completed this autumn are designed to make it even more user-friendly. Multifunctional sports courts, playgrounds, dog parks, an illuminated running track, a botanical garden and more are all on the docket.

Adjacent to the main playground is the Terrain Playground, whose unique, organic forms await older children, with attractive tracks for rollerblading, skating and running. A skateboard course is also to be expected, which will also accommodate scooters and BMX riders. Even climbing walls are being installed, with rubber catch pads to keep the energetic young ones safe. The area will be completed with plenty of greenery: 58 new deciduous trees and thousands of shrubs and perennials will all be planted.

The area between Ajtósi Dürer sor and Dózsa György út is also undergoing a marked transformation, as the old, weathered sports courts will be completely renovated and supplemented with additional ones and modern changing rooms including disabled facilities. The new sports complex will have two new courts – available for hire and lit with floodlights – with the options of football, basketball, volleyball and foot-tennis. There will also be three free-to-use multifunctional courts. Visitors can also look out for table tennis and chess tables, as well as outdoor fitness equipment.

Drinking fountains and bike storage are also to be added and, like other areas of the park, significant numbers of trees, shrubs and flowers will feature throughout. The two-kilometre long, coloured running track will be illuminated along its entire length, with warm-up areas at entry points, and drinking fountains along its span.

The Little Botanical Garden will be restored to its former glory, with information to be posted on the plants for visitors to peruse. All in all, 335 varieties of plants are to be added.

A Promenade will be set up above the underground parking garage on the site of the former concrete-surfaced car park, across an area of about two hectares. Some 60% of the Promenade will be green space and a rest area in the middle will be furnished with seats. On the border of the elegant Promenade and park, there will be a large lounge area and a decorative pool. A video showing the old layout versus the expected new has just been released, which gives the viewer a clear idea of which changes are to be expected.
