Shows, movies, concerts and cultural attractions – Budapest is always buzzing. Each week, we gather all of the important happenings taking place in our favourite city so you can plan ahead. Incorporating our regular movie guide, now updated weekly, here we showcase Budapest’s best events for the upcoming days. Get out and get involved!

Thursday

Noon - 7pm: The Many Lives of Erik Kessels at the Mai Manó House

As it closes on 18 August, this is the last weekend to see the Many Lives of Erik Kessels exhibition that presents the Dutch artist’s photographic works through 17 projects and an installation comprising many hundreds of images. The show also sees the first ever presentation of three new creations by Kessels: a video piece and two new photography books, Budapest Beauties, focusing on the Hungarian capital, and In Almost Every Picture.

7:30pm - : Full Moon Yoga at Société Rooftop

A full moon yoga session takes place on top of Société Budapest on Thursday evening surrounded by a beautiful panorama of the city. You can expect a well rounded 70-minute full moon flow yoga practice and after the class, alcohol-free drinks with your fellow yogis under the moonlight.

8:30pm - : Deep Glaze at Dürer Kert

Young Greek-Hungarian psych-rock band Deep Glaze are giving a free party on the outdoor stage of the Dürer Kert. After the success of their 2017 debut album, the band are now working on new tracks to be showcased on 15 August.

Friday

4pm - : Judas Summer Sale at Telep

Streetwear and vintage clothing store Judas will sell discounted summer and autumn shoes on the upper floor of Telep Art Gallery on Friday. If you need new sneakers and any other stuff, make sure to pop in for some serious browsing.

7pm - 9pm: Henri Gonzo acoustic at Zsiráf

On Friday evening, popular alfresco hangout Zsiráf hosts Fran Palermo frontman Henri Gonzo, who will give a cool acoustic concert on steps of the bar.

8pm - : Sukhishvili at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage

Sukhishvili is a blend of traditional Georgian dance with diverse classical influences, displaying the history and heroism of the Georgian people. Since its formation, this innovative dance company has strayed far from the conventions of modern ballet by modernising folklore themes and infusing them with classical dance elements, creating exciting and spectacular productions. This performance will feature breathtaking costumes and gorgeous choreography.

Saturday

10am - : Festival of Folk Arts at Buda Castle

Buda Castle is hosting the Festival of Folk Arts between Saturday and Tuesday. Visitors can choose from the crafted artefacts by more than 800 artisans from Hungary and beyond. Traditional shoemaking is the festival theme and this year’s guest nation is Japan.

3pm - 9pm: Lupa BBQ at Dürer Part

If you head to Lake Lupa for a swim on Saturday, you can try the smoked BBQ dishes of Dürer Part, the gastro outpost of live venue Dürer Kert. There'll be cool music and 12 hours of smoking not only meat, but vegetables, too, so everyone's warmly welcome.

11:30pm - : Wannabe at A38

Those who want to surf the wave of nostalgia for the ’90s and who might like to zig-a-zig-ah can venture into the pop goldmine of the A38 Ship on Saturday night. Dance late into the night to the hottest and most awkward hits of Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and Girls Aloud that you all secretly love.

Sunday

1pm - : Sun & Soda: GusGus at Akvárium Terrace

Icelandic electronic group GusGus are now regular visitors to Budapest’s Akvárium Klub. On Saturday, they’ll be the guest performers at the outdoor party series Sun & Soda. The party, held on the summer terrace outside the club, will feature a live performance and a DJ set.

9pm – : Szimpla Jam at Szimpla Kert

On Sunday night, a group of music enthusiasts gather at Budapest’s beloved Szimpla Kert, combining a myriad of genres while improvising together. Decent amps are provided, so all you have to do is bring your instrument and a good mood to join the late-night jam session.Show off your self-penned songs while vamping on tunes with other guitar heroes.

Movies screening
If you’d like to see English-friendly films, mainly blockbusters, your best bet is always Cinema City, especially the ones at Allee or Aréna, sometimes at Campona and WestEnd. Budapest’s art-house film theatres mainly focus on artsy and indie films, while the Bem Cinema brings back the classics to the big screen, almost always in English.
