Balaton Sound, Hungary’s biggest summer music festival after Sziget, kicks off today, Wednesday 3 July. Top DJ duo The Chainsmokers, Atlanta rapper Future and Dutch DJ icon Armin van Buuren will all be appearing over the next five days at Zamárdi, on the south shore of the lake. The party starts tonight with legendary spinmaster Tiësto.

Just over an hour by car or 90 minutes by train from Budapest, Balaton Sound brings together top international names in electronic and dance music for tens of thousands to party alongside Hungary’s main getaway resort.

This year, the line-up is stronger than ever. The Chainsmokers return to Balaton Sound after last year’s successful set, Alex Pall and Drew Taggart having just released Sick Boy, an album of singles issued throughout 2018.

Hip-hop/trap rapper Future has been a leading figure on the scene for a while now, delivering a sixth US No.1 album, The Wizrd, earlier this year. He appears on the Main Stage tomorrow, Thursday July 4.

Florida rapper Denzel Curry has just released his fourth album Zuu and should deliver a few punchy tunes at the Dreher Arena on Friday.

DJ Snake, hot from the Paris banlieue, closes the whole shebang on Sunday.

Look out, too, this year’s special guests: seven giant inflatable octopuses transported all the way from Holland, who’ll be shaking their 20-metre-long tentacles along to the beat every day of the festival.
