Every weekend, we bring together all of the important happenings taking place in Hungary’s capital, so you can plan ahead. Whether you would like to shake it to the coolest beats, immerse yourself in culture or give in to guilty pleasures, we present a bunch of events for the upcoming days. Friday

2pm - : Budapest Beer Week at Dürer Kert

Beer lovers of the world unite! This hop-fuelled festival brings together 25 countries, 60 breweries and 240 beers so that you can sink suds to your heart’s content. Enjoy tasting sessions, rowdy parties, rare ales, live music and two all-you-can-drink days when you can meet top brewers from around the world. Tickets are still available for Friday.

4pm - : Downtown Festival at Szabadság tér

Between Friday and Sunday, Budapest once again hosts the city’s biggest free festival in the heart of town at Szabadság tér. Cold drinks constantly flow here while live music by popular local bands and fine bites entertain crowds.

7pm - :  Omar Souleyman at A38

An unconventional representative of Syrian techno, Omar Souleyman returns to Budapest on Friday. Souleyman started his career playing his synth at weddings, but after releasing his first album, he soon became immensely popular in the West as well. This unlikely star played at the concert for the Nobel Peace Prize event and at Glastonbury.

8pm - : L-E-V Dace Company: Love Chapter 2 at Trafó

Contemporary dance group L-E-V arrive from Israel to perform their new production Love Chapter 2 at the Trafó House. Co-run by artistic and life partners Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, the choreographers of the company often use additional elements to enhance their dance performances, such as technology, visual art and fashion.

10pm - : Capital Filmmakers Festival Budapest at the Bem cinema

On Friday and Saturday, the Capital Filmmakers Festival fills the Bem cinema with short films and documentaries from several countries. After the screenings, you can meet the directors for a Q&A.

Saturday

10am - : Children's Day at Városliget

Sunday is Children's Day in Hungary, so a two-day extravaganza takes place at the City Park this weekend with free admission. The activities include concerts, sports, dance and acrobatic performances, cultural institutions of various nations will be present, and donating blood will also be possible.

10am - Rooftop Yoga Season Opening at the Intermezzo Roof Terrace

On Saturday, you can join an open-air yoga session atop the Hotel President Budapest, at the Intermezzo Rooftop Terrace. After a relaxing practice backdropped by panoramic views, there’s a meet-up with representatives of eco-conscious brands. Register by email at szappan.petra@gmail.com.

2pm - : Cruisin with Patrice Bäumel

On Saturday, the party boat of Cruisin sets sail with Patrice Bäumel on board. The Dutch DJ will be joined by Hungarian jockeys Yvel & Tristan and Marco Grandi.

8pm - : DakhaBrakha at Akvárium Klub

Ukrainian folk quartet DakhaBrakha play at the Akvárium Klub on Saturday. Their name means buy-and-sell in old Ukrainian, and it might just refer to their eclectic style, borrowing elements from many Russian and Slavic musical traditions and several genres, including electronica. Their up-beat world music tunes are ideal to dance to, especially when played live.

10pm - 5am: Fatboy Slim at Akvárium Klub

English DJ and producer Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, spins discs in Budapest on Saturday. The party takes place in the big concert hall of the Akvárium Klub. Tickets are still available.

Sunday

9am: Pancs Farmer's Market at Élesztőház

Every Sunday, the courtyard of Élesztőház turns into a bustling market with home-grown and home-made products. Seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheeses, ham, salami, pastries, cordials, jams, juices and wine will be on offer. This time, children's activities and fresh strawberries are in the limelight.

10am - : Children's Day at various venues

Sunday is Children's Day, so several family-friendly activities await at the City Park, the Kopaszi gát, the Budakeszi Wildlife Park and various downtown squares.

4pm - : Budapest Beer Week afterparty at Dürer Kert

The garden of the Dürer Kert hosts four bands who play out a long farewell to Budapest Beer Week. Sink global ales as you take in groovy and danceable Grabanc, the doomfolk of The Devil's Trade and the infectious neo-swing/psychobilly of the Yellow Spots.
