All good things must come to an end. Beloved summertime hotspot Valyo Kikötő by red Rákóczi Bridge is closing down for good, as the riverside space will soon become a construction site for the new stadium to host 2023 World Athletics Championships. On 15 March, the Kikötő says goodbye to sweet summer memories with one last lovely night of bonfires, music and delicious drinks.

Last summer, a bunch of urban activists, Valyo – the people behind the Liberty Bridge picnics – took another step towards better integrating the Danube into the lives of locals by opening up a new riverfront hangout, Valyo Kikötő. The Kikötő operated as a popular inner-city festival site over the summer, hosting all kinds of fun events from concerts to weddings.

Now however, the Kikötő is closing down for good, as this previously abandoned riverside space will be turned into a building site for the new sports arena due to host the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

Don’t worry though, Valyo is always up to something good. Liberty Bridge picnics are likely to be organised again this summer, plus Valyo is planning on opening up a free beach on the Római embankment and is always on the lookout for new opportunities to improve life in the Hungarian capital.
