9am - 6pm: Travel Expo at Hungexpo
The huge halls of Hungexpo house a tourism showcase over the weekend. The Travel Expo gathers digital nomad bloggers, family vacationers, hippy adventurers and, of course, professionals, at a grandiose exhibition presenting everything from holiday destinations to agencies and practical items for travelling.
10am - : Doughnut Festival at the promenade by Allee
Over the weekend, a culinary festival takes place on the promenade by the Allee Shopping Center featuring the traditional favourite at Hungarian carnivals, doughnuts. Besides the sweet and savoury treats, street-food delicacies, mulled wine and other hot beverages will be offered from the stalls.
2pm - : Free ice skating at the City Park Ice Rink
On 22 February last year, Hungary won its first ever gold medal at the Winter Olympics, and this first anniversary is National Ice Skating Day. On this special occasion, anyone can skate for free for two hours and 22 minutes at Budapest's pretty City Park Ice Rink.
10am - : Robotics Exhibition at the Árkád Mall
Throughout the weekend, robots take over the Árkád Shopping Mall. Many activities await the whole family, such as workshops and contests – and even Pepper, the first humanoid robot capable of social interaction, will be making an appearance.
5pm - : Boyz Boyz Boyz Friday Clothes Sale at the Typo Showroom
On Friday, a clothes sale is being held at the Typo Showroom, now with men’s apparel. From 5pm, vintage T-shirts, jumpers and trousers are being offered at a discount. The sale is also a small party with a DJ and drinks.
Saturday
4:30pm - Local producers' market at AZTA
On Saturday, local small-batch producers showcase their goods at the AZTA Community Centre. In the spirit of sustainability and eco-consciousness, these farmers and producers try not to produce waste and only use organic ingredients.
5pm - : A celebration of folk music at the Palace of Arts
Taking the stage of Müpa on Saturday are world-renowned Hungarian folk group Muzsikás, with guests Hanga Kacsó, István Berecz and Áron Porteleki. Besides the concert, several other folk and ethno-music artists will be featured at this event, championing diversity in music. Before and after the concert, a folk-inspired dance house will be held in the foyer.
8pm - : Zanzinger album launch at Trafó
Indie singer-songwriter Dániel Misota has been playing under the stage name of Zanzinger since 2014, becoming a key part of the local music scene. On Saturday, he is launching a new album entitled Seasonal Winds with a concert at the Trafó House. A solo production by fellow musician Dávid Makó, The Devil’s Trade, warms things up.
9pm - : Bladerunnaz Birthday Party at the Akvárium Klub
Drum & bass party organisers Bladerunnaz celebrate their 20th birthday on Saturday with a grand festival at the Akvárium Klub, its line-up packed with international musicians. One is Dutch Noisia, another UK DJ Wilkinson, accompanied by MC Ad-Apt.
11pm - : Under Black Helmet at the Dürer Kert
Hungarian DJ group CRIME have invited Lithuanian industrial techno trailblazer, Under Black Helmet, to Budapest. The artist first appeared and gained acclaim with his dark and atmospheric release Mute, and he’s been a protégé of the Berlin-based Code Is Law label ever since. He plays at the Dürer Kert on Saturday.
Sunday
10am - : Vegan Sunday Market at Anker't
On Sunday, the monthly vegan market at Anker’t returns with fresh produce, home-made delicacies, friendly vendors and interesting workshops. Children are welcome, as are canines.
11am - : Seed Market and Plant Adoption at Szimpla Kert
Ruin pub Szimpla is hosting a plant exchange and seed market on Sunday. You can bring any plants you’d like to give away, or arrive empty-handed and leave with a bunch of plants and seeds to transform your apartment into a lush jungle.
5pm - : To Kill A Mockingbird at the Bem Cinema
If you are feeling up for a black-and-white classic, watch the film adaptation of Harper Lee’s 1962 Pulitzer-winning masterpiece starring an Oscar-winning Gregory Peck. Set in a small Alabama town in the 1930s, the story focuses on scrupulously honest, highly respected lawyer Atticus Finch, magnificently portrayed by Peck. Finch puts his career on the line when he agrees to represent Tom Robinson, a black man accused of rape. Note also the celluloid debut of Robert Duvall as heroic recluse Boo Radley.
11pm - : Oscars Party at the Toldi Klub
Cinema and club Toldi awaits movie fans with popcorn and gallons of caffeinated drinks for Oscar night. If you’d like to watch the ceremony in good company and make sure you stay awake, join this free event.
