Global celebrations on designated days throughout the year honour friendship, coffee and even the feeling of happiness. It should therefore come as no surprise that the world’s most renowned hazelnut cream, Nutella, has its own annual festival – and it's taking place today. If you’re in Budapest for this hedonistic happening, here are nine places where you can eat, snap and even sing a song about everyone’s favourite sweet spread.

SUGAR! Shop

From Sunday until close of play today, designer confectionery chain SUGAR! Shop is hosting what it calls Nutella Days. Offerings include cheesecake, macaron and cake pops, all made with Nutella, of course.

Bálna Bistro

Riverfront Bálna Bistro sets its agenda around Nutella for an entire month, providing copious treats made of this cocoa-infused cream, such as cocktails, shakes and sushi. The event, running through to the end of February, doubles up as a celebration of crêpes, in anticipation of Pancake Day.

Dolcissima

Haven for Italian confectionery, Buda-based Dolcissima is dedicating this weekend to Italy's sweetest inventions. Between 8 and 10 February, Nutella will be the cherry on the new cakes whose range is yet to be revealed by Dolcissima pastry chef Davide.

Pizza Me

Budapest street-food chain Pizza Me is expected to sell more of its Nutella-flavoured dough, baked to perfection as part of its regular menu. If you haven’t yet tried pizza with Nutella, there’s no better day to sample this unusual treat.

The Donut Library

Part of Donut Library’s permanent selection, Nutella Bueno contains two of the Ferrero firm’s popular products, Kinder Bueno and Nutella. On World Nutella Day, this should be the shop’s most coveted treat.

Habos Gofri

Found steps away from the historic Centrál Café, Habos Gofri wows with waffles sold over the counter through the shop’s unpretentious street-front window. Banana drenched in Nutella is also among the flavours.

Cukorka

A pocket-sized hangout by Nyugati stationCukorka is where you’ll find French-style crêpes and American pancakes, both enhanced with just the right amount of the celebrated chocolate spread.

À la Maison Grand

Every day is Nutella Day at À la Maison Grand, a District V breakfast bistro, where Nutella gives a sugary boost to American pancakes, Belgian waffles and even the French toast served here all day.

Johnny’s Bistro

Resembling an American diner, Johnny’s Bistro is where servings come in all shapes and forms, sweet or savoury. Today, order the Nutella-banana shake, a similarly flavoured burrito or Nutella cheesecake, all offered at discount prices for the occasion.
