Treats from around the world are the focus of a Budapest street festival taking place between September 28 and 29th. Gastronomy outlets lining Ráday utca and surrounding thoroughfares within District IX are joining forces to offer exotic drinks and dishes to guests for the Ráday Corso festival. This multi-cultural event is spiced up with a flea market, Latin American rhythms and jazz.

An acoustic concert by Hungarian band HolyChicks opens Ráday Corso, a festival presenting cultures from around the world through their cuisine and music. Taking place at Manga Cowboy (Ráday utca 31), the show starts at 7pm. Then from 7:30pm, Maggie and the Musicians play jazz at IF Café (Ráday utca 19).

On Saturday, events start at 8am with a community run around District IX. To join the activity, put on your sneakers and head to the meeting point at the Nehru part entrance of Bálna Budapest. To boost your energy levels, get your caffeine kick at Tényleg Espresso Bar (Lónyay utca 39) that is putting on a whole-day coffee-tasting event.

From 9am till midnight, the Norbulingka Tibetan eatery (Tompa utca 2) serves yak meat and momo, steamed dumplings filled with meat or vegetables. From 5pm, the owner of the restaurant will perform a Tibetan song and play his dramyin, a traditional Himalayan folk-music lute.

Still on Saturday, between 10am and 1pm, the Medence Csoport concept store (Pipa utca 4) transforms into a flea market, allowing local residents to bring and sell vintage items, including clothes and toys.

Throughout the day, visitors can join several sessions to learn about African basket weaving at the MigHelp Migrants’ Help Association of Hungary (Ráday utca 9; buzzer: 12). Registration is recommended on info@mighelp.hu. Also provided at the same location are African and Middle-Eastern dishes.

Between 11am and 1pm, Turkish music is performed at the Két Egér Bookshop (Ráday utca 20). Culinary events include tea-tasting at the Nepalese shop (Ráday utca 16), serving ice-cream versions of Sicilian dessert cannoli at MAMO Gelato (Ráday utca 24). Right next door at Bagdad Gyros (Ráday utca 24B), you can devour a traditional Iraqi dish.

At the Loco-motive salon (Mátyás utca 20), you can try your hand at tattooing, using a synthetic imitation leather as the surface (3pm-6pm). Guests and passers-by at Púder Bárszínház (Ráday utca 8) can enjoy a hang drum concert on the bar terrace from 3pm and then at 7pm, Latin-American rhythms are performed at the Inka Grill Peruvian restaurant (Ráday utca 29).

On both days, visitors will come across exhibitions presented at various venues. These mini displays underline cultural diversity, the main theme of the festival.
