Visiting Budapest’s historic market halls has never been easier. Recently launched by the BKK public-transport company, a new trolleybus line serves three of the city’s major bazaars at weekends. Setting off by the landmark Great Market Hall, the service runs all the way to the food fair on Lehel tér, via the Downtown Market Hall and several other major stops along the way.
The new City trolley vehicles are also self-propelled, allowing them to run four kilometres without using the overhead line. The bus sets off every half-hour on Saturdays between 8:30am and 7pm and Sundays between 9:30am and 7pm, though the Great Market Hall and the Downtown Market are not open on the last day of the week. Normal ticket fares apply. See the BKK website for more details about the schedule.
