A new shuttle service will soon be whisking sightseers between two major transport attractions in Buda, the Castle Hill Funicular by Chain Bridge and the Chairlift at picture-postcard Zugliget. There, these two-person gondolas lift travelling couples over panoramic greenery to a steep path leading to the city’s highest point, János Hill, topped by a lookout tower. Operating in an initial test phase until 28 October, this special bus transfer runs at weekends and public holidays between 10:30am and 5:30pm. On warmer days, the route will be served by a vintage convertible Ikarus vehicle.

Operated by the city’s BKV public-transport company, a direct service provides a new sightseeing alternative on the Buda side between the Castle Hill Funicular and Zugliget Chairlift. To board, passengers must present a valid pass to the funicular (1,200 forints) and a return ticket to the chairlift (1,400 forints), both of them available at the Clark Ádám tér kiosk. Riding the chairlift is free for those holding a valid Budapest Card.

During the transfer between the two destinations, an audio guide provides city information in English. Weather permitting, the journey can be enjoyed in an open-top Ikarus-type vehicle dating back decades, otherwise an ordinary tour bus serves the same route. This sightseeing service is available at weekends and on public holidays, including on the 23October national holiday, when Hungarians commemorate the 1956 Revolution against Soviet control.

As a bonus, through the last weekend of October, tickets can be redeemed for a coffee or soft drink at the Zugliget terminal of the chairlift.

Buses depart from Clark Ádám tér seven times a day at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm. The return service sets off from the Zugliget Chairlift at 11am, noon, 1pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm, 4:30pm and 5:30pm.
