Kazinczy utca is going car-free this Saturday, allowing pedestrians to take over this bustling street in the historic Jewish District. The queen of ruin bars Szimpla, new theatre and club Tesla, and pocket-sized photo shop Café Analóg are among the many prominent hangouts taking part in the Sétáló Kazinczy Utca (Stroll Kazinczy Street) festival. Free events feature all day, including photo sessions, a bicycle fair, badminton games, even an operetta performance. Events start at 10am and run until late evening.

Considered the party vortex of Budapest, Kazinczy utca has earned global fame for its ruin bars and Berlin-style hangouts. Every night, throngs of tourists stagger down this winding thoroughfare in search of after-dark fun and late-night snacks.

This Saturday, locals and foreign visitors can look forward to a day-long feast at this cosmopolitan destination. The busiest stretch of Kazinczy, spanning Dohány utca and Király utca, will be closed to traffic for concerts, theatre shows and workshops. The annual Stroll Kazinczy Utca event involves shops, restaurants, cafés and bars.

At its most prominent locale Szimpla, you can buy a second-hand bike (or sell yours) and adopt a plant. In front of the bar, DJs spin tunes (10am-noon), while local theatre formation Gangaray Trambulin presents a street-improv act (2pm-4pm). Meanwhile, anybody can join an enamel workshop from noon to 4pm.

Between noon and 8pm, badminton gear is distributed at Mika Tivadar Mulató, encouraging passers-by to join in. From 6pm, the Dynamite Dudes play rockabilly and blues.

At Asian-style eatery Ramenka, guests can donate to help rescue dogs from the Pomázi Kutyamenhely shelter. These unfortunate creatures can even be adopted (10am-6pm). Then throughout the day, diverse performances feature on the Tesla stage.

To capture moments from this social gathering, the shop Café Analóg takes portrait photos of anyone by using awooden Goldmann camera dating back to the 1890s (1pm-5pm).
