On Saturday night, the Zugliget Chairlift will be open after dark, a first for this panoramic attraction. Whisking adventurers of all ages up the steep slopes of János Hill, crowned by the Elizabeth Lookout Tower, the Chairlift provides spectacular views of the Buda surroundings, and sneak peeks into people’s gardens during the 15-minute breezy ride. On the night in question, look out for shooting stars, as meteor showers are expected over Budapest. As the Chairlift glides over peaceful greenery most of its way, with little light pollution, you will have a pretty good chance of catching a falling star.

The Zugliget Chairlift glides for nearly a kilometre, taking passengers up to the highest peak of the Buda Hills, in about 15 minutes. Between 6pm and midnight on Saturday, a special nostalgia vehicle transports passengers to the starting point of the Zugliget Chairlift from Batthyány tér for free. Tickets for the Chairlift are 1,000 forints, and 1,400 forints return, 600 forints and 800 forints for children. And once you reach the top, DJ music and three wine stands await those in an elevated mood with Hungarian and Mediterranean reds, whites and rosés. And from there, it’s downhill all the way.
