Ooh la la! On March 20th, Tesla Budapest transforms from a nightclub into a big sweet shop to offer any number of macarons and pastries under the same roof. Dedicated to the French meringue-based confection, annual Macaron Day takes place in Budapest on the same day as its international equivalent in Paris and New York. Here in Hungary’s capital you can try the local version of this tempting treat and learn how to assemble these crunchy little flavor bombs.

Tomorrow you will be able to taste all colors of the rainbow in Budapest. For Macaron Day, these French confections will be presented in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet and in many more vibrant hues for the Hungarian contribution to the international festival celebrating this fantasy-inducing Gallic delicacy. Confectioneries citywide and beyond offer a bright range of this disc-shaped delight, spiced with thyme, enhanced with matcha tea or flavored with lavender.

Beginning at 3pm, Tesla Budapest starts welcoming sweet-toothed guests, who can shop around the enticing fare until 7pm. This four-hour fiesta is complete with macaron-baking workshops and competitions to select the best desserts being bestowed with the honor of Macaron of the Year.

Known for their creative notebooks and calendars, local DOT for You heads up event design. The same brand will present a special macaron-themed notebook dedicated to the festival. “Since 2012, we’ve set up five big Macaron Days in Budapest, all with great success,” says Regina Boros, the main organizer of the event. After implementing the international model last year – when instead of being concentrated around a main venue, celebrations took place across several confectioneries citywide – the 2018 activities now bring the Macaron-loving community together in one place.

“We also would like to introduce smaller and lesser-known sweet shops to the public and show that they can offer the same or sometimes cakes of even better quality than some of the star dessert destinations,” Boros points out.

Admission costs 1,900 forints a person and includes a free macaron. For more information, check out the event’s website.
