A new initiative helps eco-conscious drivers navigate Budapest. Introduced a year ago in the Hungarian capital, GreenGo provides easy access to electric cars in the city with an online carsharing system operating round-the-clock. Volkswagen e-Up-type vehicles are accessible for short-term rental through GreenGo’s easy-to-use mobile application. A handy digital map pinpoints the way to the available cars across Budapest. To be eligible to drive any of these electric vehicles, you just need a valid driving license and personal registration with GreenGo.

Getting around town in an eco-friendly way is becoming a familiar part of Budapest transportation. From crossing the city by community bike to riding green public buses, there are many ways you can reduce your ecological footprint as you nip around the Magyar metropolis. As a recently introduced initiative in the Hungarian capital, the mission of GreenGo is to promote fume-free driving for those who would like to steer through the city by car.

Featuring almost a hundred Volkswagen e-Up-type mini cars in its fleet, GreenGo offers services accessible through the company’s mobile application for anyone holding a driving license valid for at least one year and a credit card. First-time GreenGo users have to present their ID and driving license in person at the company’s Budapest base (Budapest 1075, Rumbach Sebestyén utca 15) by the Synagogue, where a registration contract is signed. After this initial sign-up process, all the following steps of renting the car are managed online. Vehicles are available across town and an online map navigates you to the nearest pick-up point.

GreenGo’s mobile app features the number of available cars near you and their exact location, alongside information about the vehicle’s battery life. From the time of booking, GreenGo members have 30 minutes to get to the selected car. Within the company’s pay-per-minute system, you can use the car for any period of time up to maximum of three days. The rental fee includes the cost of leaving the car in Budapest’s public-parking zones, the electric charge, insurance, cleaning and maintenance.

Handy video tutorials help GreenGo users during the rental procedure, while the company’s website provides detailed descriptions about how to start, park and lock the e-Ups. For more information about these services, visit the GreenGo website.
