When we heard that Domi’s Bake Shop on Weiner Leó Street was closing, we got a little scared for a moment, as Domi’s seasonal pies, brownies, tarts, and macarons always provide great delights during a busy day. Fortunately, it soon turned out that the shop was not closing down for good, only moved to another part of town. On September 19th, The Bake Shop opened its doors on Klauzál Street, so we quickly donned our coat and popped down to check out Domi’s new place.
It is easy to spot this pretty sweet shop amid the dilapidated buildings of the party quarter. While walking towards The Bake Shop, through the massive windows we can already spot the busy bakers, happy guests, slices of cake, and a colorful wall decorated with cement tiles, which were all handpicked and will certainly serve as a background for many photographs in the future. There are a few cozy seats inside, and next spring they will also install a terrace.
Alongside Domi, we also find another baker behind the counter, Nati, who regularly worked at the previous unit as well. The oven is often on beginning at 6am, as the store awaits guests from as early as 7:30am. In addition to sweets, customers can also devour sandwiches that are made with homemade bread, which the girls like to highlight. The selection of sweets is fortunately pretty much the same as before, but the change of seasons always provides the girls with different ingredients they love experimenting with.
While there is no permanent selection, the counter is normally filled with 16 kinds of sweet seductions. When we visited, it was fig season here, which was presented in the form of chocolate and cheesecake as well. We tasted a mini chocolate cake with salty caramel (690 HUF) that in addition to the chocolate sponge cake and caramel cream, was also enhanced with popcorn. Everything in this cake, from the texture to the flavors, was just perfect, and even though we have a sweet tooth, we had to share this treat between the two of us.
The prices are friendly, falling between 550 and 690 forints per sweet. The girls also offer biscuits and diet-friendly variations of their treats, and they are planning on introducing vegan breakfasts in the near future as well. At The Bake Shop, everything can be perfectly matched with a cup of coffee, but besides that, the aromas, the homey atmosphere, and the enthusiasm of the girls surely boost everyone’s mood, too.
