Surrounded by panoramic views over one of Hungary’s most beautiful regions, Csobánc Castle is a historic high point of Lake Balaton’s northern terrain, where hilltop ruins beckon hikers, paragliders, and day-trippers to explore this archeological site while admiring natural wonders in all directions. Found atop a 376-meter-high peak by the Balaton Uplands, this monumental attraction is close to the Tapolca Lake Cave and the Balaton shore. In our newest installment of our video series highlighting diverse destinations across Hungary, we present gorgeous aerial footage of Csobánc Castle.

In the English-subtitled video below, provided to We Love Budapest by the Hungarian Tourism Agency as part of their “Hungary Awaits You” campaign to showcase the wide assortment of attractions to discover across the country, we can feast our eyes on stunning drone footage of Csobánc Castle – situated atop a mini-mountain overlooking Lake Balaton – and learn about the history and recreational opportunities of this area, following a brief Hungarian-language commercial:

How to get there from Budapest: by car, follow motorway M7 west from Budapest until exiting at main road 71 and turning right to drive along Lake Balaton’s north shore (see this article for more details about visiting Lake Balaton from Budapest). Continue along main road 71 until reaching the waterfront town of Ábrahámhegy, and turn right on Patak Street (look for the sign leading to Salföld), and continue straight ahead when this street turns into Szent István völgyi Road after crossing a small bridge. Keep following this road past Salföld and go left at the fork in the road toward Tapolca; keep following this road until it ends at Gyulakeszi, and take a right (again towards Tapolca). After proceeding about 200 meters through Gyulakeszi, turn right onto Jókai Street (just after the first church you see on the right side of the road), and after about 600 meters, park in the lot on the left side of the road – visitors must walk the rest of the way up Csobánc Hill to the castle ruins.
