This spring, a new eco-friendly type of vehicle is taking passengers to major city landmarks in Budapest’s historic Castle District – a cute and comfy open-air minibus. Emblazoned with iconic Budapest photos, driven by experienced guides, and fully powered by electricity, these cool little coaches are already turning heads while tooling around the cobblestoned streets of the capital’s oldest neighborhood, stopping at several sites near monumental attractions and high-quality restaurants. While anyone can buy tickets to board this green machine, people with a Budapest Card can ride for free.

Introduced during this past weekend, the Official Budapest Castle Bus is now operating every day between 9am and 5pm, serving six stops around the Castle District every 20 minutes. In addition to providing an easy and eco-friendly way to tour Budapest’s most historic neighborhood, every minibus is driven by an experienced tour guide to offer helpful information about major landmarks and diverse attractions.

A round-trip ticket (which is valid for three separate rides) costs 2,100 forints for adults, or 1,200 forints for passengers aged 8-17, and kids under 8 ride for free, while a one-way ticket costs 1,200 forints; tickets can be purchased when boarding the bus. However, anyone with a Budapest Card can ride the Official Budapest Castle Bus for free, and the vehicle stops near many attractions that offer free entry or discounts for Budapest Card holders. The easiest places to board the minibus at the base of the Castle District are at Clark Ádám Square on the Buda side of the Chain Bridge, and at the nearby Várkert Bazaar; check out the official website for more info.
