During his current six-month mission aboard the International Space Station, French astronaut Thomas Pesquet is serving as a flight engineer, participating in scientific experiments, and, in his spare time, taking lots of aerial snapshots of varied locations back on Earth, and sharing them via social media. Along with astounding pictures of natural wonders like Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and wind-sculpted Sahara dunes, Pesquet is posting fascinating pictures of Earth’s cities, including a beautifully clear photo of Budapest taken in late December.

On January 23rd, Thomas Pesquet shared the astoundingly detailed photo of Hungary’s capital below, in which we can easily identify landmarks like Margaret Island, Gellért Hill, the Buda Castle, and the city’s bridges:

Other cities photographed by Pesquet include Rome, Dallas, and, naturally, Paris. To admire more of his pictures – including fascinating glimpses of everyday life in orbit, and even photos taken during a spacewalk – check out his Flickr account.

Thomas Pesquet is scheduled to remain aboard the International Space Station until May – if he passes over the Magyar metropolis again, we hope that he’ll point his eye in the sky back at us!
