For some, it was just a simple time measuring tool, but for many, the clock at Széll Kálmán Square was an iconic meeting point, a spot to arrange dates and a place under which goodbyes were said. Due to the renovation of the entire square, the lovely clock was taken down forever this month, but soon we will be able to see the symbolic timepiece at the Budapest History Museum. And don't worry, the revamped Széll Kálmán Square will not be without a defining meeting point and time keeper either.

Many are interested in the topic of where the clock will go, since it's been a cultic meeting point that has been a part of daily life for the city’s residents for years. While the original Széll Kálmán Square clock will no longer be ticking when the brand new renovated square is unveiled, it will, however, be replaced by a new and innovative device, thanks to the team at Szövetség ’39 (who also made the Holocaust Memorial Wall on Dohány Street). Some locals are still concerned about the whereabouts of the old iconic clock and there is even a Facebook group dedicated to following its movements. For now, the clock has been taken to the Kiscelli Museum, from where it will be transferred to the Budapest History Museum, where it's slated to become part of an alternative exhibition.
