These days, anyone walking around Budapest might come across handwritten notes displaying positive messages citywide. Lídia Gulyás, the Budapest-based brain behind this grassroots project, aims to put a smile on the faces of passersby while inspiring urban dwellers to place similarly kind posts all across town on September 23rd – anyone can join this inspiring initiative for free, and jot down one or more stimulating sentences during informally organized gatherings at participating Budapest hangouts, before spreading out to leave the heartwarming notes somewhere in the city this Saturday.

We enjoy the metropolitan lifestyle with all of its conveniences and benefits, but sometimes big cities can feel impersonal, especially when we are going through tough times. This is what Lídia Gulyás has recently contemplated after encountering tragedy, and she decided to use the power of words and benevolence to do something good for fellow city dwellers, who are stuck in life or need encouragement. After spending a Saturday night filling out 70 blank sheets with constructive messages, she headed out to the streets of Budapest to leave the freshly formulated notes around major landmarks and in the city’s semi-hidden side streets, documenting this instant initiative on her Instagram account.

Seeing the positive response to her efforts, the Budapest-based benefactress is now expanding this poignant program to involve anyone who feels similarly motivated to spread good vibes across Budapest: on September 23rd, positive people gather at designated Budapest hangouts to fill blank papers with lovely lines, written in English, Hungarian, or in any other languages. Those who complete their charming captions can head out into the city to carefully stick the stimulating sheets around varied urban sites. You can join the event at Budapest’s Dose Espresso (Budapest 1051, Hercegprímás utca 21) and at UP Center (Budapest 1114, Bartók Béla út 29) between 9am and 3pm, while similarly sweet people come together at Flat White (Budapest 1037, Szépvölgyi út 15) between 2pm and 5pm. All you need to do is show up at one of the aforementioned venues with a pen, paper, scotch tape, and a positive attitude.

Meanwhile, anyone who is out and about in the city on Saturday and finds one of these freshly mounted notes with a message that especially speaks out to them can just grab the motivating sheet and keep it to read the inspiring words again later.
