During July, Budapest was a bustling scene of aquatic athletes making a splash at four of the city’s landmark locations during the 2017 FINA World Championships. However, after the world’s leading swimmers have now left Budapest behind, the competition continues at most of the same venues with the FINA Masters tournament, happening during August 7-20, when living legends of swimming, diving, water polo, and synchronized swimming hit the pools again, while Balaton will once again host open-water swimming contests.

Competitions

The FINA World Masters Championships have all of the same competitions as the regular FINA tournament – swimming (August 14-20), diving (August 7-13), synchronized swimming (August 7-13), water polo (August 7-13), and open water swimming (August 10-12) – except for the high-diving competition, as this death-defying discipline is not part of the Masters tournament. These different competitions of seasoned aquatic athletes will be happening at most of the same venues where the FINA World Championships took place in Budapest and at Lake Balaton.

Venues

The Masters competition in Budapest will be happening at the same locations that were already successful for the FINA World Championships – at the newly built Danube Arena, at the city’s long-established Alfréd Hajós National Swimming Complex, and at the temporary pools on Városliget Lake in City Park – except Buda’s Batthyány Square, which hosted the high-diving contests in July. Meanwhile, Balatonfüred will once again host the open-water swimming contests.
