There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

10am - : Budapest Spring Fair at Vörösmarty SquareThe Budapest Spring Fair starts on Friday, and welcomes guests until April 30th with delightful treasures, clothes, accessories, and folk-art objects at the wooden stalls of friendly vendors, as well as a wide variety of culinary treats. Furthermore, the event is complete with cultural programs, arts-and-crafts presentations, folk music, folk-dance shows, and demonstrations by basket-weavers, potters, blacksmiths, and other cool craftspeople. 11am - 11pm: “Streetfood” Opening at WestEnd City Center (rooftop terrace) From March 31st through April 2nd, the rooftop terrace of WestEnd City Center turns into an exciting gastronomy fair, where guests can sample succulent barbecue meals, aromatic beers, fine wines, and high-spirited pálinka specialties, while meeting the main representatives of Budapest’s street-food scene.

More details 6pm - 9pm: Community Grill at BAOTIFULDue to the sunshiny spring weather, one of Budapest’s most beloved Asian eateries, BAOTIFUL, opens its inner courtyard to bid farewell to bad weather, and welcome the spring with a weekend-long picnic fueled with grilled dishes, acoustic music, and a friendly atmosphere.

Budapest Spring Festival at various venues
The Budapest Spring Festival is an annual event that kicks off on March 31st this year, presenting many exciting programs from various artistic genres citywide, such as concerts, contemporary dance and circus performances, theater plays, exhibitions, operas, and jazz events by both Hungarian and international talents.
More details7:30pm - : Akvárium Spring Terrace at Akvárium KlubAs one of the main venues of the Budapest Spring Festival, this popular downtown club at Erzsébet Square is presenting a special program series: beginning on March 31st, renowned Hungarian musicians and newly discovered talents give acoustic concerts every evening, with other exciting programs also taking place on the lively terrace.
More details 10pm - 6am: LÄRM - Casino Rave: Jonas Kopp, Scalameriya at LarmThe two heavyweight figures of hardcore-industrial techno, Jonas Kopp from the Argentine-Berlin axis and Serbia’s Scalameriya, come to throw an amazing party in the heart of Budapest’s party quarter, on Akácfa Street.
Saturday

10am - 6pm:
“Baselitz. Preview with Review” at the Hungarian National Gallery
This exhibition honoring one of the most famous and sought-after contemporary German artists, Georg Baselitz, opens on Saturday, and will be on view until July 2nd. The exhibit comprises more than 80 works selected from private collections, while eight lesser-known large-format paintings and a sculpture directly from the artist’s studio will also be on display.

11am - 4pm: Festival Opening Promenade at various venuesOn Saturday, hundreds of professional and amateur dancers, singers, and musicians march through the city to announce the arrival of spring with roaring cheers. As the parade progresses on Andrássy Avenue, the participants include certain stops to hold performances at locations like Liszt Ferenc Square and Kodály Körönd, honoring renowned Magyar maestro Franz Liszt before concluding the parade with a large-scale performance at Heroes’ Square, which everyone is welcome to join.

7:30pm - :
Pumeza Matshikiza concert at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music

On Saturday evening, prominent South African soprano singerPumeza Matshikiza sings arias from Mozart, Mascagni, Puccini, and Dvořák in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.

10pm - 5am: Feeling ’90s-’00s OldSchool Party at Soho Budapest
The specialty of this party series is playing the best music of the nineties and the new millennium, mixed with foreign R’n’B, soul, hip-hop, rap, funk, and pop tunes.
10pm - 4am:

History of Drum and Bass at Mika Tivadar Mulató
The legendary sets of Norm and Vityoo used to be the highlights of thumping happenings on the dance floor, so they return for a night to remind us of the good old times alongside Android and Konor.
Sunday

7pm - 9pm: The Hours at Bem Cinema
Budapest’s beloved Bem Cinema launches a new event series called Meryl Streep Sundays, honoring Hollywood’s hugely talented actress with weekly film screenings. The first film of the series is the powerfully sentimental The Hours, screening with original English audio and Hungarian subtitles this Sunday. The film presents how Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway affects the lives of three women who live in different times and spaces, but are all connected by the same yearnings and fears.
7:30 - 9:30: Goran Bregovic: “Three Letters From Sarajevo” at the Palace of ArtsOne of the best-known modern musicians and composers of the Balkans, Goran Bregović, brings his newest album, “Three Letters from Sarajevo”, to Budapest. which is written for a solo instrument, the violin, which – played in Western, Oriental, and Klezmer way – unites the three religions that are the biggest treasure and curse of Sarajevo.

8:30 - 11pm:
Nekromantix (DK/US), The Silver Shine /HU/ at A38

In April, local psychobilly fans can attend a niche event: at last, the genre’s outstanding Danish-American representative, Nekromantix, visits Budapest, looking back on a history of more than 20 years of various horror mannerisms. The band not only captivated America’s – and the world’s – dance-loving undead-enthusiasts, but also continually defines the subculture’s present.
