Gault&Millau Hungary recently released its 2017 restaurant guide, featuring more than 200 top-quality eateries in Budapest and across the country. Founded by two restaurant critics in 1965, the influential French guide annually rates eateries in several countries on a scale of 1 to 20, recognizing them by chef’s toques (1-5) strictly based on the quality of the food. The service, prices, and the ambience are commented upon separately. Every year, the country’s best eatery, chef, restaurant owner, young chef, and winery is selected and awarded a prize in Budapest. See this year’s winners below.

The 2017 GaultMillau restaurant guide is freshly released, and Hungary’s best restaurant, chef, and winery were awarded last week at Larus Restaurant in Budapest. This year’s award ceremony showed that there are plenty of superb restaurants in the countryside as well as in Budapest, and that the number of reliable middle-category restaurants and bistros is continually rising. One of the world’s biggest restaurant guides, GaultMillau was founded in the 1960s in France. The French president of Gault&Millau, Come de Chérisey, said that it is important to draw the public’s attention to the country’s best restaurants, as well as presenting Hungarian gastronomy to the rest of the world.
