Our weekly roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who must not be missed during the next three days. The films will play with Spanish sound and Hungarian subtitles or English subtitles and Hungarian voiceovers.

6pm - :

Megágyazás / Making the Bed
at Omnivore GalleryThis is the second event of the collaboration between 6D and Omnivore Gallery.

The works of Magdolna Hitter and Rita Ilka are not about dreams, but the unconscious state when the body moves without consciously moving it, as your nervous system and muscles relax, you breathe slower, and shut out the outside world. This is the trance state which is inevitable for life; everyone goes through it alone, but it does not belong to anyone.
7pm - : A collection by Dori Tomcsanyi and Zsófi Barabás at The Garden Studio On December 4th beginning at 7pm at The Garden Studio, the collection from the collaboration between painter Zsófi Barabas and fashion designer Dóri Tomcsányi will be introduced.

The idea of this collaboration came from the desire of constant innovation and renewal of the two creators, which gave an opportunity to bring the organic motifs of Zsófi Barabás to life on the streets, spaces and moving surfaces – and so on people who wear Dori Tomcsanyi clothes. Graphic artist Áron Filkey is responsible for the project’s façade.Saturday

10am - : Bálna Advent at Bálna Budapest Several pavilions for drinks and souvenirs await visitors alongside street-food trucks at Bálna Advent. In addition to the hot beverages, free concerts, and Christmas-themed programs, the riverfront location also guarantees a great atmosphere. 7.30pm - : Jiří Bělohlávek and the Czech Philharmonic at MüPa – Palace Of ArtsThe Czech Republic’s leading symphony orchestra takes to the stage of the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall with the country’s best-known conductor to perform a selection of the best Czech music. The inaugural concert of the orchestra, which begins its 120th season in September 2015, was conducted by Antonín Dvořák, and it has worked with all the greats of European music since. Conductor Jiří Bělohlávek initially became music director in 1990 for a short period until 1992, before resuming the post after a two-decade hiatus from 2012; he is perhaps the most recognised interpreter of Czech music internationally.

11pm - : Kez YM at LÄRMYamaha Electronic School graduate and dynamo behind Chill Size FM, Kez YM surfs somewhere between softly chugging house, disco, and jazz-inflected kicks. Looking up to Japanese cultural heavyweights like Yukio Mishima and Takeshi Kitano when making his multi-instrumentalist concoctions, Kazuki has steadily been building an impeccable discography ever since his debut EP, “Sweetly Confused”. His fusion of disco soul and Detroit beatdown-inspired productions have earned the nod from Moodymann, Larry Heard, Osunlade, Theo Parrish, and many more.

7pm - :

Today Is The Day, Grime, Oaken
at KVLT BP As easy as it is to confuse vocalist/guitarist Steve Austin with the wrestling legend of the same name, the volatile fury of his band Today Is The Day sure packs a similar wallop to a well-executed Stone Cold Stunner. Indeed, applying the brute force of thrash metal legends Slayer and the tense and sinister forbearance of the Melvins to Red-era King Crimson’s frantic jazz fusion blitz is a stroke of brilliance. Each Today Is The Day-album feels like a tiny universe in itself, always going carte blanche with a fresh batch of musical influences. Today Is The Day has proven to be one of the most illustrious and groundbreaking heavy-guitar-based groups of the past two decades.Sunday

10am - : WAMP Christmas Design Fair at MillenárisWAMP, Budapest’s monthly design market, is a great place to find one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts, or to just browse around and surprise yourself with some uniquely designed clothes and accessories.

1pm - : 2nd Rossman Santa Run at Corvinus University of Budapest (CUB)Guess who has white beard, a red outfit, running shoes, and a special day on December 6th? Yes, maybe Santa Claus too, but in this case it’s you! Along with hundreds of other people who dress up in red on December 6th and go for a run along the streets of Budapest.

On December 6th, everyone who is willing to run 2.7 km can do so, wearing a Santa Claus costume. The outfits are provided by the organizer, Budapest Sportiroda (Budapest Sport Office), and the fun is guaranteed. You can run alongside as many Santas as you’ve ever seen before at one place, or cheer on the participants.
7pm - : Crippled Black Phoenix, The Devil’s Trade at Dürer KertStarting out as an idea in 2004, Crippled Black Phoenix soon established themselves as one of the decisive bands of the new century when it comes to cinematic soundscapes and end-time ballads not willing to be categorized. Even though all of the members are involved in other successful projects (Mogwai, Electric Wizard, Iron Monkey, etc.), they refuse to be stamped as a name-dropping cumulation of their musical past. What counts is the music and the feelings it evokes.
8pm - : Iva Bittová at Trafó HouseIva Bittová’s countryman Milan Kundera wrote how Europe’s “small nations” form another Europe. The violinist-vocalist may be from the ‘small nation’ of the Czech Republic, but her musical worldview and visionary creativity acknowledge no borders. Her powers of spontaneous creativity are more bountiful than it is fair to confer upon one person. Witness and marvel.
8pm - : Sheer Mag, Norms, Padkarosda, Camp Koala, WSVRS at MÜSZISheer Mag is loaded with endless tasty riffs, climbing bass rhythms, upbeat drum action, and fuzzy melodic vocals. The guitar parts really stand out, but the overall outcome is simply flawless. They might reference 1970s classic rock every time they holler and shred, but their gnarled, whiskey-fueled pop-in-miniature is of a singular breed: There aren’t many contemporary bands that you could imagine unironically covering “Sweet Home Alabama” while some bloody-lipped fan stage-dives. Such is the essence of Sheer Mag’s raw power.
