OK, here’s the obligatory coverage of this weekend’s primary program in Budapest – Sziget is the most important music festival in the region, and it’s as fun and exciting as always. Bands like Kings Of Leon, Kasabian, Marina & the Diamonds, and Passenger are all performing during the weekend. However, every year there are thousands of local residents and Budapest visitors who won't attend Sziget because of various reasons – and this Weekend Guide edition is for them and for those who hit the island only in the evening, but still want to have a good time until then. Noon - 10pm: Retro Beer Festival at Pestszentlőrinc, Kossuth Lajos Square (District XVIII)
In addition to domestic craft beers, visitors of the Retro Beer Festival can taste Belgian and French beer specialties as well. This free event takes place between August 14-16, and with the support of the District XVIII government, the first 500 glasses of beer are free every day; in addition, visitors can drink for free in exchange for coupons available in the newspaper Városkép and in distributed flyers. The opening day will be the “Sörömök napja”, when we can buy beer and snacks for a discount of 50%.
7pm - 11pm: The Story So Far, Reminder at Gozsdu Manó KlubAs trailblazers of modern punk rock, The Story So Far is hailed as one of the most exciting bands of their generation. The release of their eponymous self-titled third album in May proved that all of the hype surrounding this five-piece has been well deserved, with DIY Magazine stating they “continue to lead the charge for their niche.”
8pm - 5am: Kül'kolor at Ferencváros Harbor Kolor’s semi-guerilla event series continues, with its next location being the Ferencváros Harbor near Nagyvásártelep. There will be some outdoor cooking and an almost-serious Petanque championship, with background music from our favorite DJs and outside drinks are allowed this time as well, although the organizers also prepare with an on-site pub. Incidentally, there are no neighbors to disturb at the industrially picturesque Danube branch, so there is no need to hold back!
8pm - 12pm: Night Of Ice Cream at Budapest
The “Night of Ice Cream” will be held again on Friday, August 14, between 8pm and midnight – meaning that during this time, we can buy delicious ice cream for half its usual price! If you don't know where to go, here is our guide to the hippest spots!
10pm - 6am: Just House – Meszi & Bohumil at Akvárium ClubAs the party’s name suggests, the Friday evening at VOLT Music Bar will revolve all around house and its various trends. Seasoned disc jockeys Meszi and Bohumil will spin the hottest vinyls and fill the dance floor with pulsating beats. At the event, starting at 10pm, they will first enchant the audience with some soft, sexy pieces, only to turn up the greatest house hits later, to encourage us to dance till dawn!Saturday

10am - 2am: POOL&BEER 4 at
Vituki Pool
Music from noon until dawn, pool, thermal water, cold drinks, several buffets, juicy, soccer, sauna, locker rooms, rubber duck, központjónás, mangopapa, martinaudio = endless summer.
10am - 6pm: TAPAS: Spanish Design for Food at the Museum Of Applied Arts25 years of Spain’s avant-garde experimental blending of design and food in a large exhibition organized by Acción Cultural Española, divided into three
parts:
kitchen, table, and meal.
Open until October 4th every day (except Mondays) from 10am to 6pm.
11am - 6pm: August bicycle and parts bourse at Dürer Kert
The monthly bike fair will be relaunched to feature various fun activities. Get a used bike, bike parts, or accessories, or if you have anything to sell, register it at durerbringaborze@gmail.com. Since this will be one of the biggest bike fairs of the month, you shouldn’t miss it.
2pm - 10pm:
Lick The Click!
at A38 ShipEvery Lick The Click! is like chili-flavored ice cream: hot and cool at the same time, with punk-funk, dubby disco, acid, and other rarities. Isu, Crimson, and Chrom lived most of their lives behind the decks, so they surely know how to make a crowd go mad. While you are drinking an ice-cold mojito and enjoying the beautiful panorama with your friends, these three DJs will offer a wordless lecture for you about what good music really means. Before getting lost in the nightlife of Budapest, do some warm-up partying here.
10pm - 2am: Moon (All Night Long) at TeslaIt's the first time for DJ Moon to spin in Tesla.garden, but certainly not the last: the club is happy to have him as one of its residents from September on. As a guiding light in downtown Budapest's nightlife, he's bringing his elegant, smooth trademark house that’s made his series “Deep In The City” and “All Is Love” such crowd favorites.

3pm - 6pm:
FessNeki at Akvárium Paint like your favorite famous painter, such as Van Gogh, Klimt, or Monet, and discover the creativity inherent in you! The FessNeki team is putting on a special summer event. FessNeki is about having fun and freely creating art as a member of a community. Why not organize a special date or meet some new people, since there’s no way you can ruin your painting, and what’s even better is that you need no previous training or skill to accomplish this. Come and experience this great event and become an accomplished painter!
Don’t forget to register! 7pm: No Omega, Anchorless Bodies, Brokenthread at Dürer-kert “If the music is loud we won’t hear the sound of the world falling apart.” This protrusive state of mind is exactly how Sweden’s No Omega express their bleak brand of modern hardcore.
Yes, D-beat drumming, blast beats, and chaotic riffing, but they also have a thing towards slow melodic tunes and Defeater-ish emotional outbursts.
8pm:Big Daddy Wilson at KobuciChampion Jack Dupree, Louisiana Red, Eddie Boyd... many musicians who made Europe their home and brought the blues with them succeeded here better than in the U.S. Even Luther Allison lived in Europe for 14 years before his big break.
And now there’s Big Daddy Wilson, an American singer and songwriter who found his home in northern Germany, but keeps returning to Hungary. On this night, he will be joined by another famous bluesman, Ripoff Raskolnikov!
