With its extensive range of programs and fascinating curiosities, this year’s Sziget Festival is anticipated to be one of the greatest ever, as thousands of revelers occupy the “Island of Freedom” to soak in the beats and enjoy the epic festival atmosphere. Apart from ordinary transportation modes, we can also access Óbuda Island by boat to rock the 30-hectare grounds amid mind-blowing visual effects and a hefty amount of illuminated lights, and if the hot weather drains our batteries we can chill on ice-cold Dreher draft beer for a relatively cheap 650 forints.

While in the past the festival’s visual aspects underwent several changes, this year the weeklong music and cultural good-time gathering runs again with the steady Festival Republic theme, and as a result the focus falls on certain key areas equipped by up-to-date features, creating a huge entertainment hub. It took three weeks and nearly 8,000 people to set up a full-fledged Festival Republic, with works including temporary pavements using wood and metal elements, making it easier to roam the island and more resistant to rainy weather conditions. For easing the heat that is forecasted for the upcoming days, the roads will be watered from time to time, while several vaporizing gates provide chilled moments to the festival crowd across the island. Above all, 20 doctors, 50 nurses, and 122 patrols assure a week of hassle-free entertainment.

Beside the vast collection of music programs, funky attractions ensure memorable moments, such as the visually stunning plastic-bottle installations, wooden buildings from the Hello Wood Festival, the Tree of Dreams, the Llama Farm, András Wahorn’s Bridge of Love, the four-meter tall bottle post, and the iconic “Before I Die” wall.

Sziget Beach awaits sunbathers along the Danube, while anyone can follow main stage performances online; other improvements include the A38 tent’s increased size and the slightly altered orientation of the Main Stage, both qualifying for a larger audience capacity at the performances; catering to the business minded crowd, the TED talk zone will focus on the world of startups, introducing creative business solutions.

Robbie Williams is undoubtedly the biggest headliner this year, with the British superstar set to perform Monday night, with all tickets sold out for this eagerly anticipated show. As of press time, he has said to have already arrived at the Four Seasons Gresham Palace, occupying an entire floor with his staff.

We are eager to broadcast first-hand news and fancy snapshots from this off-the-scale island bash, showing you lots of happy people, fun-filled scenes, and the greatest headlines during this exciting week ahead.
