American artist Paul Jackson is known primarily for his travels and his watercolor paintings inspired by these journeys. The painter recently visited Budapest, and was inspired to create a huge artwork based on what he saw. Since the vivid painting portrays the Parliament and the Chain Bridge, it is safe to assume that Jackson’s visit wasn’t (entirely) about cheap entertainment, but about the city itself.

Travel-industry statistics of recent years are proof that Budapest attracts and inspires many visitors. Some come for the pretty girls, others target cheap drinks, but there are some who are truly interested in the city itself, and once here, leave the party district to take a walk in the Castle District, stroll across the bridges, and wander along the riverbank. American painter Paul Jackson probably belongs to the latter group of Budapest visitors: he decided to commemorate his experiences in Hungary’s capital with a huge watercolor of Budapest.

The peculiarity of this decision is that the artist did not portray a night scene in a ruin pub, or the drunken tourists or hipsters of Madách Square, but the Danube riverscape centered by the

Chain Bridge , indicating

that Paul

is one of the classic sojourners

who are interested in the city, its architecture, and its vibes. And we are happy about that.

The intricate process of creating a realistic likeness of the illuminated city is quite challenging, and it is interesting to follow the painting’s creation

at different stages of completion

on the artist’s Facebook page. The blank canvas was first photographed on March 15th, and the last picture of the watercolor was posted on 20 May. There is no available information about the estimated date of completion, but this seems close enough.

Paul Jackson is in his 30s, is a member of the National Watercolor Society of America, and is considered one of the greatest watercolor artists of our

era. His inspiration comes primarily from his travels, and his works range from portraits to landscapes, from still life to architecture. We highly recommend following his career.
