Budapest is one of the most photographed cities in the world according to data by panoramio and sightsmap, but just what is Budapest's number 1 most photographed site?

Based on the geotagged photos provided by the geo-location photo-sharing site panoramio (owned by Google), this heat-map has been created showing the most photographed spots in the world.

The dark areas have very few photos on the site, while the red areas have more, and the yellow areas have the most. As you can see the whole of Europe has a concentration of very photographed locales.

According to this data New York City is the most photographed spot in the world, followed by Rome, Barcelona, Paris, Istanbul and Venice. Hungarian website Kreativ Online prompted us to look at the information and we found that Budapest rounds out the top 10 (!!) - in other words, according to panoramio, Budapest is the 10th most photographed location on Earth!

Within Budapest the St. Stephen's Basilica is the most popular place to take a snap, followed by Matthias Church in the Buda Castle District and the Parliament building. As you can see on the heat-map of the city below, other favourites for photos include: the Buda Castle Hill Funicular, Széchenyi Bath, Gresham Palace and the Citadel atop Gellért Hill.

You can use the incredible sightsmap to play around with the heat-map yourself. You can even zoom in and see street-views and other information about the sights and locations.
